my roomate has a desktop with an X800XL and for whatever reason FEAR just isn't cooperating. he will run the performance test at recommended settings and get like 28 high fps and usually like 12 lowest, then he ran the performance test at minimum/minimum and his scores were even lower....wtf mate.

he has tried to reinstall FEAR, he has the latest 6.2 drivers from Ati and has done a clean install of the drivers with driver cleaner pro, he hasn't updated FEAR however, could there be an issue with that?

nothing is wrong with his card because he has run other benchmarks 3dmark05- 5100 or more and 3dmark03 over 10,000, so his card is performing how it should be.

thanks for the help in advance.

definitely update fear. worked for my FPS issues on my desktop. also, how much ram does he have? for fear i would recommend having 2gb of ram for optimal performance. it also depends on his settings in game. he could have everything set to low, but his resolution will also play a factor. if *everything* is at minimum, then there is something else wrong. but definitely update fear, and report back.

    hope this helps.

I know there is a strange thing that Mike (shampoo) wrote once, and that is when you turn on volumetric lights and set it to medium you get higher fps than turning it off (I think). I know I have tried it and and verified. Also Maximum textures (using Hypermemory) don't show almost any FPS drop, even if it uses like 400 MB of the main RAM. Also Anisotropic filtering up to 8x doesn't show any considerable FPS drop. Strange. FSAA and shadows kill the fps in this game.

FEAR is badly coded game for sure. Sometimes is fast like hell and sometimes you get Powerpoint presentation. I know that 1.3 patch does something with graphics, but I still didn't apply it. 1.2 didn't change a thing.

    Cheers,

what is his resolution set all? also, check to see if he has a game profile setup in the CCC (if he has it)..if i max everything in game AND in the profile and use them together, its very nice, but it is less FPS in game ( this is with SLI , say from 100fps---maxxed everything in BF2, to 75-80fps

    hope this helps

    pb,out.
