what's the best driver for the 8600m GS? In Counter Strike:Source I get high frame rates, but it seems to stutter for a split second every few steps and i'm not sure why. I'm thinking it's a driver issue. The driver I'm using came from the Asus installation disk.
Also I believe that this card is under clocked (it's at 500/400). What's the best program for overclocking and what's the most accurate way of getting the GPU temperature? I've don't know how to overclock with nTune. RivaTuner just screwed me up (maybe I had it too high) and purple stuff flooded the screen and crashed the system so I had to reboot. I then found out about ATItool and it seems to work very well for easy overclocking. I'm not sure which one of these programs is more accurate in temperate readings. Please help me out if you can!

update: well I used the drivers from the samsung r70 for nvidia's video card and it was the same one as the asus one. When reinstalled the driver, the Hl2 and CS seemed to be smoother. Now I just have to deal with the underclocked GPU. I think that I can only set the memory up to like 470 max and the core to something over 600 according to the ATItool test (I didn't complete it though). Why are some of the 8600m GS clocked this low while the guy who owns the samsung r70 is getting his at 700/600...I'm using windows XP btw. With all recommended settings (all high except AA and AF) I get 110 fps in the counter-strike source stress test. Also during the stress test sometimes, the graphics appear kinda purple like on some parts. What's up with that?

This is not an issue related to your notebook in particular if you are wondering. This is a fairly common problem with CS:S. If you put a description of it in an Internet search engine you should get results. I forget exactly how it is fixed.

Hey, MD- i used to get the purple stuff too on 6600. There is nothing wrong, u have to quit and restart CS:S . THis happens when u change video setting and start VST or play on a server. DO u think the card has 2d clocks and 3dclocks?

Do you have Vsync On/Enabled? If so, turn it off/disabled. It should cap your FPS at your Refresh Rate but might should stop the graphic lag.

I hope Asus didn't use 400mhz GDDR2 on the S96s.

i think that they did. rivatuner lied to me showing that it was gddr3 =[
