Using NTune to monitor the temperature of my 8800m GTX I noticed while playing oblivion it went up to around 68 C. With the little crumby cooler under the notebook it was in the mid 60s. The other day I was playing stalker and I think the gpu actually went up to 72 C after 2 hours and with the notebook cooler. Is that safe temp? I heard people getting into the 90s but since this is a different GPU would playing games in the low to mid 70s severely effect the lifetime of the gpu? Also, games seem to stutter more the longer I play them. Is that a result of the gpu getting to hot or is it the cpu? The fps seems to be pretty consistant and high when it stutters so I wasn't too sure.

Yea, it`s safe. Crysis for example pumped 66 C out of my 7950GTX , but then again, my system is pretty cool in what temps are concern.
Those are normal gaming temps. If you`re OCing, lay off a bit, if not, don`t worry, they`re ok. Just check for dust in the fins where the air comes out due to the fans, keep your notebook raised on something for proper air flow under the laptop and always keep it on a solid surface(not fabric, because it builds up heat)... -

Gpu's can handle 100c and work just fine.
Most will shut off at 120c so your just fine. -
