I just bought a lenovo ideapad y470 mainly for gaming because the site notebooks for gaming gave it a very positive review saying it could run crysis w/ high graphics at 24 fps. It has I7 and I maxed every option when i purchased it. Still, it takes almost a minute to boot up (its supposed to take 9 seconds) and it can only run dawn of war 2 on low graphics at like 20 fps and crysis barely runs at all. Anyone know why this is? are there settings that i need to activate? i heard that i need to turn the gaming processor onto a different setting but am unsure how to do this? thanks for the help

9 seconds to boot up!! Chromebooks barely boot that fast!!
Boot time is determined by lots of things, such as ssd, programs at startup etc not just cpu.
Make sure power setting are on high performance. -
Having it plugged in is a big help. Also, are you sure they didn't advertise the 9 seconds boot up with a SSD? What is your gfx card?

The CPU has nearly nothing to do with running Crysis @ 24 FPS, what GPU do you have? That is the real key here, not to mention the i7 comes in several speeds and the low speed is the processing power under hyperthread and the turbo boost is the high speed under single core applications.

Ok it seems you have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB and that is deff capable of running Crysis at high settings with great FPS. Your notebook is probably in a power saving mode, for Alienware this is called stealth mode. Find this mode and disable it, sometimes it can be hard to figure out, make sure the power setting is on Performance, not balanced or battery saving because those settings will slow down hardware for better battery life. Also boot your notebook while plugged in.

Could alse be a Nvidia Optimus issue.
Most likely you got that on your notebook.
The Intel IGP wont run Crysis 2 fluently. -
thank you all for posting. I do have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB. sorry for not psoting that originally and thanks for the extra research mbickerdike. To mbickerdike, this is what i believe the problem to be is as well but i cannot find the option to change this. I can barely run black ops as well but the thing is no matter the graphics settings it is running at the same FPS. very strange to me

Make sure your graphics card is actually on when you're running the game- go into the Nvidia optimus driver and look at each of your gaming profiles. Also, make sure your drivers are updated- Lenovo's stock drivers aren't always the best.
Is your computer in high performance mode? Also, did you happen to take the battery out of your machine? -

GT550 should be able to run Crysis 1 at 30 fps stable with all medium settings.
My overclocked 5650 (maybe 10~20% weaker than the GT550) can do that. -
Not sure how lenovo does it but there should be a little button somewhere on your laptop that turns on the dedicated card.

However in this case, sounds like you have your power plan set to eco/balanced mode. Set it to High Performance. Again, make sure you have the best drivers for your card (sometimes the newest are not necessarily the best, research into it)
As for the 9 second start up, my laptop boots in about 30 to 35 seconds with an SSD. In comparision my other laptop with a 5400rpm drive and dual core @2.0ghz boots in about 1 minute 10 seconds. I do not know of a laptop that can boot in 9 seconds that has anything starting up or installed on it.
