hi guy's i want to know which of those need more power

i mean if i have go 7700 is it easier to play a game on 1920*1200 resolution with no AA or AF or to play it with lower resolution but with maximum setting

i hope my question is clear for you

Dropping the res to say... 1024x768 or 800x600 with 4aa/16af would run better than 1920x1200 with no aa/af.

Depends if you want a sharp picture, or smoothed lines with good shadows etc.
Performance wise, a lower resultion with effects will usually give you more frames than a higher resultion with less effects. Depends mostly on how many pipelines and shaders your card has compared to its clock speeds.

in most cases if u have more onboard memory u can get away with higher resolutions. i stress in most cases. cause you can have 256MB but only a 128bit wide bus. which would, in most cases, bottleneck at ur vram depending on what gpu u have. the go 7700 is a good gpu but i would go for a lower res and higher settings. just my personal opinion

I personally play single player games at high detail with the best resolution I can get without affecting frame rate, then play multiplayer at max resolution with the best effects the vid card can muster.

What everyone else has said is true, maxing resolution will stress a GPU more than effects. What really matters though is your personal preference. I feel my games look better when running 1680x1050 (native res on the G1) with lower effects as opposed to lower res with more effects. You just need to spend a little time experimenting with each game you play and balance resolution vs effects vs frame rate. If you would like to see your frame rate in game try http://www.fraps.com/ . It is free unless you want to record in game video longer 30 seconds.

Hey so if i get a radeon x1600 or a go 7600 with a widscreen 1680 x 1050 it would not necessarily look better for games than say a 1440 x 900 or even lower. In fact would anyway say what they would think would go best these level garphics cards could perform on? However dropping the resolutions can't hurt a display can it? i.e if you get the higher resolution you can allways go down?

Personally i prefer resolution in RTS games, i need to see as much of the battlefield as possible.

In FPS games I need detail to pick out enemies from a-far and I generally like image quality in those kinds of games (makes it look so much nicer) so i tend to go with a low resolution (800x600 or 1024x768) and completely max out settings (like 6xAA/16xAF)

If you are starting to notice horrible frame rates, dropping resolutions always helps. But now you are getting into an area that is dependent on the screen you are playing on. LCD's always, always look the best when set at their native resolution. Some do ok jobs when at a lower than native res, but not all. So far, I have played Dark Messiah, LOTRO, Tomb Raider Legend, and Gothic at High/Very high settings at 1680x1050 on my Go7700 with very few problems (sometimes a medium setting here or there). The x1600/7600 should perform almost as well and I believe would be good at 1680x1050 and great at 1440x900.

I remember a time when I though 800x600 res graphics where awesome.....
