im curious as to whats the better deal. the 580m is about 300 dollars more. but is the price increase worth it.

ps does anyone know if the 485m gtx can run crysis on very high with an overclock.

The 580M is not worth an extra 300 dollars at all. I would go with the GTX485M or the HD6990M.

I get 20-25 fps with Crysis set to Very High at stock clocks and many powerful Desktops can struggle with Crysis.

I doubt an overclock will make much difference but I could be wrong. Bare in mind that I get 40fps+ with Crysis set to high and it does not look much different to me (allat 1920 x 1080).

get the 6990m. On par with GTX 580m, better than GTX 485m, and vastly cheaper.

Then wait or get the 485M. As we said unless you got money to burn, the 580M is not worth its performance. Simple as that.

Extra USD300 for just less than 10% improvement over the stock 485m, you decide if it's worth it. Looking at the comments above, the consensus so far is a resounding no.

I will chime in with my own, and very adamant, NO.

An extra $200 is only worth it if you're getting 40% or more back in performance. Paying that much for ~10% is silly.

Take the 485M now, or wait for the even cheaper 6990M.

I second the notion that you wait for the 6990M (which will likely be superior to Nvidia, cheaper most definitely and cooler) or simply get the 485M if you're in a hurry.

485M and 580m GTX are identical gpu's except the latter is on a smaller manuf. process with 10% higher clocks.
$300 is NOT worth it (I wouldn't even pay that much for measly 40% increase... as realistically, I should be getting at least 80% or 100% performance increase for the price in question).

I'd wait for the 6990. If your impatient , get the 485M. The 580M is totally not worth it.
