Well i was using systemrequirementslab.com and next to my video card it says i have 1.5gs of video ram how is this possible with the 8600m gt 256mb?

It might be taking Turbo Cache into account. Turbo Cache can use up to half your total RAM as shared VRAM if it needs to.

Shared memory possibly.
My c90 shows 1GB, and it is only a 256GDDR3 card. 768 shared & 256 dedicated -
There is probably no video card out there that can actually use it`s memory , if over 512 anyway...
Memory is used for higher resolutions, but also high resolutions require very fast core and memory clocks, and wide bus rings, and most of the gpu`s are 128 or 256 bit. Maybe 512 bit cards would do better...
Alas, it is vista`s way of pumping up ****

ok thats fine i was just wondering

That amount of memory isn't really for higher resolutions as it is for larger texture sizes. Most games 128 or 256MB is all that are required. Games like Doom 3 had an "ultra" texture set for 512MB or larger cards. Of course more memory helps a bit with higher resolutions, but its more the bus width and speed that matter there.
silly question??
