Hello. I'm 16 and planning on purchasing a gaming laptop. I needs to be something I can do monthly payments of around 75$ on, and I'm planning on using it primarily to play crysis when it comes out. So, my question is, what would be the best value for around 2500? Right now i'm really considering the higher end version of the toshiba x205.
-
wow:|. you sure you wana spend 2500 on a computer when you're only 16???
alienware has good looking and impressive stuff, though it is a little more $$$ than most. -
Seriously, just buy a desktop. It doesn't seem like you have the money.
-
save up and build a desktop. faster, potentially less problematic, and a helluva lot of fun to build. there's no need for a laptop in high school, which i assume you're in, and it'll be a good exercise in money management.
-
Take my advice if u got the money buy the best...The X205 is the way to go 4 u
-
I say buy a 360 and put the rest into a college fund. Of course, unless that's you're not going to college.
-
Lol, so many economical advisors here, the guy just wants a comp!
You don't need a laptop in high school? I'm writing from my high school laptop right now at least, although there may be some differences in that between Norway and the US.
I'm probably going to buy the Sager NP5791, link:

For 2500 you get 4GB ram, 2ghz, 64bit Vista, 7950GTX and all that jazz. ^^ -

well, thank you, mr.henrik, for the response. I'm going to look into that. everyone else however doesn't really need to worry about my money or what i want to buy. the reason i'm getting a laptop as opposed to a desktop is because i want to be able to produce music from wherever i want, and of course the games. In regards to the 7950gtx, does that work with directx10?
-
Nope, skip alienware, their bunch of overpriced junks (except for the top top ends). Take a look at Clevo D900, their quite popular gaming notebooks. And 7950 arent dx10, only those 8 series are.
-
i checked out the clevo site, but where can i look at the prices?
-
I'll "quote" what I remember from some fellow here: most of the games coming out from now will either be DX9 or compatible with both 9 and 10. So, it's either the 7950GTX which will be very good for some years, until the norm becomes DX10 only, or it's the 8700 which is good for some years with DX10, but by the time every game is DX10 you'll get much better GFX cards anyways. That probably didn't make sense, I'm tired. -
You do realize that $75/month will take you over three years to pay it off? You'll be lucky to get three years out of it, especially if you want to use it for games.
This would, however, be a good opportunity to gain some credit history. See if your parents will cosign for a Dell account with you. The Inspiron 1520/1521will be about $1300-$1400 well equipped and keep an eye out and can probably get one year with no interest. Or even better yet a Vostro 1500 with an 8600m GT if you get a 1280x800 screen and the 120GB HDD, you can probably get it for about $1100 shipped. -
^yeah, i say the same. Get a dell
and you dont need to waste 2500^
-
well dont tell him whta to buy he wants a gaming notebook so let him do it.....i say the sager np5790
www.xoticpc.com
should get a good deal for 2500 -
i like how that sager's specs look for the price, but I really want a video card that will be able to run dx10, because crysis is dx10 and that's what i'm planning on using it primarily for. i'm not going to spend 1000 on some dell that will run games on low graphics for about a year and then want to get something faster.
some advice on what gaming laptop would be the best value?
