    Hey guys,

I'm currently waiting for my Alienware M15x to arrive. However, its shipping from US (bought it from a forum member here), delivery could take anywhere between 1 week and a month (god I hope not :s). In the meantime I wonder if you could come up with any good old school games which would run on my lappy. The gfx card is:

Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I've tried running nfs most wanted on it and it actually worked, but at what must have been 5fps or so. I also have half life/cstrike, which runs more or less smoothly with the ocassional stutter.

    Hello,

What kind of games do you like, I believe the GPU you have is the Intel GMA X3100, with 8 "Execution Units," and it should have dx10 support.

The more recent Intel GMA drivers will add vertex shader support (on the HW), so head on over to

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...et+Family&ProdId=2800&LineId=1101&FamilyId=39

to get those drivers (though the MS Update function should get them for you, anyways).

    Have fun! :)

hmm well, my favorite genres are fps/action/rpg games. Would be great to find something I could play which ran smoothly, yet wasnt so old that the bad graphics would be distracting..

Haha really? dx10 support? lol, this card stutters on cs1.6, why would it need dx10 :p

I heard Deus Ex is a good game. I'm not sure how powerful the GPU is, but maybe it can run Half life 2 and episode 1? Unless VALVe updated the engine for these two, their engine should not be the same as the one for episode 2.

Visit www.gog.com and a good percentage of the games there will work great.

That's weird; you have an M15x but it has an Intel GMA card on it...that's abit of a low standard

Are you sure its an Intel card?

That is not the graphics card, thats the chipset your laptop parts work off. Can you copy all the specifications you have for your notebook on to here and one of us will be able to find off that what graphics card actually is.

Read carefully, he says he wants a game to play on a laptop that has the Intel 965 Express Chipset until his M15x arrives.

The chipset contains the GPU in an integrated solution. I believe it's the X3100. Either way GOG.com should suffice.

Depends on what games you like. Freespace 2, Warcraft 3, Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, Battlefield 1942, Age of Empires 2, Trackmania Nations (I think there's a free one at Steam), Half-Life 2 in DirectX 8 mode.

Diablo II. But the ladder resets on the 28th, so start a multiplayer character after the 28th of September.
