I opened counter stike source shared.gcf with GCFScape and I got all the sounds for the weapons and put them in 1.6, but when I play the game, I shoot and I hear nothing. They play on my media player. I guess maybe source uses a different codec or something, any ideas?

it probably doesnt work because the file that tells the game what sound to use is labeled something different, or you didnt put it in the right folder, or what you said maybe they use different codecs

no its the right label, both formats are PCM, both mono, and both 176kbps. If it wasn't in the right directory w/ the right name it would sound the default sound and not absolutely nothing
