Its a free game , though still a work in progress. Its based on freespace2, set in the current battlestar galctica universe, I've only spent a short time with it, but pretty impressed so far, I'm a big space shooter fan and really wish the genre would resurface.

Note, This is not a mod, its a standalone program.

Does the game run well on your laptop or are you playing on the desktop?

So far just the desktop, but I imagine it would run fine on my laptop as well.

Playing this game on my Inspiron 6400 (1.83GHz CD, 1Gb 533Mhz, 128MB X1400) gives me a perfect experience. With graphics loaded to the max at 1280x800 w/out AA. Although, seeing as it's a demo, there are bugs to be found, but a very enjoyable game. I look forward to the full version.

(It's also Linux and Mac native aswell!) Kudos to the devs!

    1.3 KNOWN ISSUES
When playing the game with a dual-core processor, you may experience poor framerates in graphic intensive missions. Setting the processor affinity to only one core (in Task Manager) can help this issue.

    • Some game files are very large in size. During the unpacking process the installer may stop responding. This may last several minutes (up to ten minutes in some instances), and is normal.

    • Faulty audio playback may occur if audio is set to anything other than software acceleration.

Yes it can be joystick controlled, but you can use the keyboard mouse for everything too.

But it's definitely aiming to be used with joysticks.. one look at how many control options there are can tell you. they've got just about every key on the keyboard mapped to something, and then they add a bunch of ALT-key functions on top of that!!
Whipped thru the training and part of the first mission using mouse and keyboard and man it was tough. Definitely need a joystick and maybe even separate throttle, both with lots of buttons to map things to in order to play this effectively.

BUt it was very pretty and the flying was a lot of fun, nice to see a space sim with REAL space physics, not "airplane in space" physics.

there is the multiplayer version aswell...i finished the demo...i have to agree..everything is mapped to something and also shift + a button does something....i think a joystick with throttle control would be a good idea although its fine to play without one...ah brings back memories of freespace :) any idea of release date? like the anti-glide ability pretty sweet idea for the game...the audio from SAM sucks...lol

jus to get a bit more out of it...if you go to the forum for beyond the redline...there are some missions that people have created that you can download and try...they are only a couple of minutes long themselves...but jus that little more from the demo itself :)...

well it is a beta demo... you'd probably be better served by sending it to the authors, or posting it in their forums.

I'm downloading it now. What is impressive is that it's PC, Mac, and Linux compatible and all done by fans. Even professional games don't spend the time to port to so many platforms.
