I would really have recommended you NOT get Spore. You only get 3 installs with the software, which has to be on-line. The copy protection is horrid, installs root-kit like crap (ring 3 protection I believe). If EA also puts their own crap on your system (download manager) that is even more reason to avoid it.

Spore seems to be an averageish game made, in my opinion, horrid by the DRM limitations (total of 3 installs, after which you get to buy a new copy). Change your hardware (video card, disk drive, etc.) is likely to change your hardware id, which means you just used up one of your installs (from my reading of some web sites).

As to why you can't run it on your laptop? Have you tried loading it on a PC to see if it would work there, but if you do that, you use up one of your remaining installs, so you would only have 1 left. Makes trying to figure out how to run software almost impossible, unless you like purchasing multiple copies to get the thing to run.

Look at the Spore review on amazon.com, 1 star. Needless to say I don't recommend the game.

Were you able to run it even once? If not maybe try reinstalling but since it comes with that DRM thing I'm sorta questioning about it too.

Hrm. I would recommend uninstalling EADM and see if that makes any difference. If you reinstall, try to do it with your internet cable unplugged until you do get it to work just to reduce the chances of your install credits from being used up. Use a different computer to try get troubleshooting info while you try to work on the problem. Also, there should have been an option to skip installing EADM when installing the game.

^^ That's a good point. The download manager's had some bugginess associated with it. Make sure you don't have anything firewalled off as well and you have the disc in your cd/dvd rom.

I have not been able to run it even once on my laptop and have already tried reinstalling it. Ill take a closer look at the EA download manger. Also im on a college campus that has its own firewall would that have anything to do with it?

I ordered the hardcopy of the game off Amazon on preorder, just got here today. No DRM, unlimited installations.

P.S. try going to program files > electronic arts > spore > sporebin > double click sporeapp see if that works.

So you installed the game at least 4 times and at least twice on the same computer?

I have the hard copy too, and it does indeed have Securom (DRM), a 3 install maximum, and more bugs and glitches than the average piece of EA junk. I don't think you bought the same game as the rest of us. The EA Download Manager version and retail version both have DRM. You should see all the people in the UK who cannot even play their game because the license keys won't work. In fact, the copy protection was broken and a keygen was released days before the game came out.

You can reinstall it as many times as you want. However, if there are hardware changes or you've reinstalled the OS, it's like a brand new computer thus one install is used up.

I think people want to play it not just install it.
