If my notebook has 5870m and i5-450 , will my cpu be bottlenecked by the video card if i want to play sc2 at ultra resolution with high effects turned on ?

    Thank you

no. your gpu will be bottlenecked by your cpu for sc2.

yes some of sc2's stuff really hammers the cpu (effects and post processing and physics and stuff)

that being said. it won't be too big of a deal if you just drop some of the ultra stuff to high.

Yeah, SC2 is very... very CPU intensive... Also its GPU intensive but this is one of the few games that I have seen that the CPU really plays a major factor.

What resolution is your laptop? My E7405 notebook (Specs in my sig) runs SC2 at 1680x1050 resolution with all video settings set to ULTRA or maximum. Very playable but and hundreds of units on screen FPS rates will decrease naturally.

I wouldn't be surprised if both end up being bottlenecks, depending on what's going on in the game. Get enough effects going, and both CPU and GPU will be working their butts off to keep up.

Unless mothership cloaking and a hundred void ray beams at the same time are strictly CPU-intensive.

it doesnt seem to be very gpu intensive to my notebook. running the settings on high 1920x1200, and the gpus temp stay around 70 and no lag

if i turn it to ultra its just ultra laggy but im fine with how it looks at high

Are you sure? A QX9300 should be able to walk all over SC2 on Ultra. Hell, my 720qm can short of Motherships and lasers, and the QX is a decently stronger CPU. Your 3870s, though, are a bit on the old side, and SC2 is notably bad for dual cards, sometimes getting better performance when one card is shut off.
