is this on the steam website or is this with steam's program itself?

If it's the program, reinstall steam (uh...do backup your steamapps folder)

either that or you can backup each game with backup and restore (though that will take up more hdd space since well you'll have duplicates til you uninstall steam)

You can. This is how I back up all my games; by copying the steamapps folder to an external drive. When you toss the old 'steamapps' folder into the new steam directory, it'll show all the games as 'waiting to update' or something like that...just right-click and select 'resume download'. It won't actually download the whole game again, just make it so the game can be played, although any crap like DirectX or anything that the game would have installed on first run will install again.

Every time I've used CCleaner, it's screwed something up, and caused me to spend hours looking for a fix.

this is why I don't use CCleaner.

..well that and an attitude of "hey it works fine, registry dun care yet. If it ever gets that badly screwed up it's time to reinstall windows"

    yeah it probably is.

ya just can't go through and be all "yo clean everythin'"

anyway if steam is still messing up after reinstalling it, graphics wise (the client anyway) maybe turn off direct draw text (this would also mean that it is a direct x issue or gpu driver issue or gpu issue instead of a steam issue)

If you check the latest ccleaner's update log, you will see that they have added Steam to their cleanup folder list. You should check the list of folders/items before you click 'clean' and uncheck Steam-related items.

When you use CCleaner, you should always check exactly what it will do and make it do backups of any removed registry keys just in case.

i did see the new addition of steam on ccleaner and decided to check it since ive never had issues with ccleaner.
i also do registry backups when i use its registry cleaner alhtough i dont think this is registry related. ccleaner must have jsut flushed the cache and for some reason steam isnt updating/redownloading the lost/flushed content.
i was thinking of backing up my steamapps and reinstalling steam but im afraid i might lose some of my save games or game progressions.
now im thinking ill just wait for steams next software update, so it reinstalls itself.
aside from the graphical glitches in the store, news and community pages it works fine. good thing i dont have any plans of buying from the store anytime soon.

I recommend using firefox or your regular browser for purchasing games on Steam. I feel safer that way for some reason.

Right, same here. Not part of the "generic" browser history and cache.

98% of your game saves are in the Documents folder, and copying the entire steamapps folder is pretty failsafe.

To be safe, if you list your currently installed games, I can help you make sure that all of your data is preserved.

    yeah.

most of your saved games are hiding either in my documents or users --> app data

    or in steam apps itself.

unfortunately it didnt work for me. i just uninstalled steam and im reinstalling everything thru my backups. the steamapps folder was too big to paste to my desktop.
i figured id eventually have to go this route so better to do it now than later. all is well again with the interface, but really ccleaner should remove that steam option.

    There's always this:

    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129

You just delete everything in Steam folder except steamapps folder and reinstall Steam to that same Steam folder location.

But good to know about the ccleaner steamapps option. They should at least default to not selected. I don't think I've ever had an issue with Steam leaving fragments or anything.

edit: I just installed the latest ccleaner and saw nothing related to Steam. Anyone see it anywhere? Even after doing an analyze I can't find anything in the list related to Steam.

hmmm im using version 1408. there could be a new update and they probably removed the steam option. ill go check...

    edit:
i just d/l'ed the newest version 1433 and steam is still an option under application>multimedia. i cant exactly remember if its the same type of option in 1408 but use with caution....

Hmm, I don't have it, weird. Only thing I can think of is I think Steam added downloading and playing of videos to their app, so maybe that just cleans out the videos. I dunno.
