As the title says, I have issues with steam while at the university. It won't start up due to an error that says "Steam is already running, you may only run one copy of steam at a time" Does anybody know why it says this? I checked task manager and steam is not running, I log off the internet and it still says this.

Anyone know why it would say this?

By task manager did you check through the processes? Restarting will fix it though

restarting didn't help, but i checked the processes and it tried to start up, so i cancelled the process and started it up again. It's stuck on "Updating Steam" so I imagine the schools Firewall is blocking it?

Edit: Started in offline mode, good enough for me.

It will get stuck on updating steam if it's blocked or you're connected to a wireless/connection without any proper connection to the internet (Those limited connectivity thing).

It might just be slow. Steam takes a lot of time to load depending on the time of day at my university. You could also contact the IT department to know if it's blocked/throttled by their firewall.

It's quite possible they decided to block it to avoid people downloading games on their connection.
