i am unsure as to which combination will provide me with better results, though i'm leaning towards hd3650+p8700. processor speed is important to me as i do not only intent to play games but run simulation and engineering software on the laptop (i'm an automation engineer) and it isnt entirely clear how much better the p8700 is compared to the t6500 or t6600 - i've read the difference is quite large and i'm assuming the difference between the two gpus is larger (due to the generation gap).

which should i pick placing processing speed first and graphics second (but very close by in importance)?

    thanks

To put in the simplest terms possible...

    P8700 > T6500
    HD3650 > HD4570*

*however, they can be close in performance at lower resolutions i.e. less than WSXGA+

Therefore, the P8700+HD3650 would be your best bet. The gap between a P8700 and T6500 is there although not huge as you seem to put it. HOwever, the gap between an HD3650 and an HD4570 can be pretty significant depending on the game.
