Yes its an old outdated POS vid card, but it should still be 2x as fast as a intel 950

Does anyone have any idea on why my 3dmark05 score would only be 500 range, not the 1200+ that it should be?

I have the "latest" ATI drivers installed, temps "seem" good but I have no real way of monitoring them...

    specs
    Gateway NX850
    pentium-M 740@ 1.73ghz(IRRC)
    1.5gb DDR2 memory
    ATI x700 64mb
    windows 7 pro 32bit

Not sure about the 1200+ range from what I have seen the max was around 900-1k, min was 500 ish, avg is around the 700's in 06,

EDIT I see you said 05 and if that is the case you should be around 2300 ish.

Could be thermal throttling? Have you run GPU-Z and save it to a log
then post it back here. in the
    Code:
     GPU-z log[/ code]

hmmm, When is the last time you cleaned it?? Changed paste?

Also have you tried ATI tool to monitor temps?

I know some of the x700's had thermal sensors a majority didn't though.

Ok then, :( I am sure you already did this, but doesn't hurt to ask did you set it to max performance? I mean there is only so many things it could be. If it is not thermal throttling could be the driver, power settings, or bad GPU.

ok lets look at this from a different view. When did this start? And what was your score before that run? What has changed since that run?

I picked it up used... the CPU side of the heatsink was packed with dust, but the GPU side looked clean...

Try running a game see if it artifacts or plays horrendous. Try an older driver as well.

Which one are you running @ the moment? Try switching between the two to see if it improves or not.

hmm... "gaming" performance seems to be on par with what it should be, KOTOR runs in high(no AA) just fine...

    The older ATI cards did not feature a temp sensor. D;
Both my Mobility X600 (Acer machine, still working) and Mobility X1800 (Fujitsu Siemens that overheated to death) could not be monitored.

But since your notebook is older now, it might be a good idea to clean the fans and replace the thermal paste.
Other than that dont pay too much attention to "3DMark scores" they can be misleading sometimes.

Just like Deagelson said If the gaming performance is there don't worry about the synthetics. I would probably change the paste for the CPU and GPU though.
