    hello all,,
i want to know what the difference in preformance between the t5500 and the t7200 Core2duo CPU... lets say the natebook has an x1700 GPU...

the t5500 is clocked at 1.66 (seems God DAM slow)

the t7200 is clocked at 2 ghz...
    and one more question...

if i do decide to get the slower t5500 (1.66ghz)

are these Notebook processors able to be overclocked,, i have plenty of experience with desktop overclocking (e6400 at 3.4GHZ :) at home) but non with notebook overclocking...

BTW i am getting the t5600 laptop at a CRAZY cheap price with the x1700....

I would recommend that you save money by going with the cheaper of the two processors and then use that money to buy either more RAM or a better video card, if that's an option. As performance is usually bottlenecked at the GPU or the RAM rather than the CPU.

I've read elsewhere that the better performance of the T7200 processor comes from its larger L2 cache, rather than the greater clock speed. (though in certain tasks you might notice some difference)

    For the T7200 (2 GHz), it has a 4 MB L2 cache vs. the T5500's (1.66 GHz) 2 MB L2 cache.

You won't have any problems gaming with a 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo. These days it's the processor itself that matters first. As long as you have a Core 2 Duo you shouldn't have any performance problems.
