i bought a gateway laptop a while back and it seemed to be working fine with the games i have been playing (half life 2, counter strike source, mods, you get the point.) i cant really tell you what everything is, but i have a intel pentium dual-core in my laptop. this laptop was made for spacificly for gaming but i didnt put any extra money into it. it was very choppy before i messed with the game but still choppy. is there any comands i can put in the console or what do i need to do?

What kind of GPU? (Graphic Card) I'm guessing if it was made "specifically" for gaming, it is one of the Gateway's with the 8800GTS.

you need to give us alot more information than it is choppy and it has a intel intel pentium dual-core. Try lower settings on the game.

i hope you don't have IGP. some laptops with integrated graphics processors are labeled "gaming" laptops and they're not equipped to play graphic intense games.

Even without knowing your specs, it's probably what so many others are having problems with after the last patch. TF2 does a horrible time with Dual Core based computers. Many people over on the Steam Forums have great rigs, but TF2 runs horrible on it. There is a command mat_queue_something or another that alot of us use. Go to the steam forums and you will find it.

FYI, it can make the game unstable. Usally rock solid while playing, but if you try to Alt-Tab or anything, you will not be able to get back into the game.

Mat_Queue_mode 2, use -1 in place of 2 to reset back to default.

Where do you type that in? Do you hit the "~" key or something?

My experience with mat_queue_mode 2 is that while the console displays higher frame rates, the game runs choppier. Anybody who's played on a connection with horrible lag spikes knows what I'm talking about. When I changed it back to -1 I lost maybe 5-8 FPS (Observed, not tested, since there's no such thing as steady framerates in TF2 depending on what you're looking at) but the game ran so much smoother, high 40's when in a packed firefight and well over 50 everywhere else.

To fix the stuttering with mat_queue_mode 2. Go into Nvidia Control Panel, and where you can set settings for each game, turn on Threaded Optimization.

    Yes I am amazing.

Nice. But will it fix the glitching/tearing I was getting? What about the random crashing? lol j/p. I will continue to be patient with mat_queue_mode 2 for a bit as it really makes things alot smoother since I'm getting a better frame rate now.

Yeah the mat_queue_mode 2 makes me mad. It does crash a fair ammount. I found that the 175.70 XP drivers for my M1530 does pretty well with it. The 174.74 tho would crash alot more.

But yes I am amazing.... Why? Because this may fix your tearing :)

2 options, of course there is v-sync. But that tends to drop your overall frames. Then there is the option that I use. Is fps_max 60 (or whatever you want your max fps to me). I actually set it to fps_max 59 because it will go a bit over that now and then. Yes you will not be getting 100+ FPS. But I don't think that is ever needed. Give me a solid 60fps and you will never tell the difference.
