I just booted up tf2 and joined a server and right after I pressed continue the game froze at the character select screen with only a portion of the heavy weapons guy showing. I pressed control alt delete and pressed end task and now the game seems to work fine but this worries me because my old computer had a defective graphics card that would work when it felt like it but would stop working sometimes. should I be worried? I REALLY hope this isnt a hardware issue. BTW I have the latest drivers.
EDIT: my laptop is the gateway 7805fx which has the same specs as the 7801

How do other games run? What about heat? Overclocked? Driver updates?
-
EDIT: Could it be 64 bit vista I just tried to quit the game and it gave me a black screen and I had to press control alt delete to go back to windows.
EDIT: ok I dont think its a grapihcs issue it just keeps freezing. could it be vista 64bit? -
It's most likely an issue with either a driver or your system. You should first try your stock driver or an older one from laptopvideo2go. You could also try re-installing the game. TF2 should be compatible with vista 64, so that's hardly the issue.

I usually just install it over the old one but if you want to uninstall the old one then run driversweeper then install the new one. TF2 is a very driver sensitive game. Lot of crashes for everyone.
-
Never had a TF2 crash except when playing with mat_queue_mode 1 but that's a known way to make your game crash.
-
It used to crash for me every time i tried to close the game down, alot of people has the same error i believe. I played it again today for the first time in 2 - 3 months. No errors so far

Bump* I need help please, this is my favorite game!

I have just bought my new gateway p7805u FX and am having troubles with TF2, the game seems to freeze when its quitting or loading. All my other games work and drivers are up to date.
PS. I already posted this but the answers didnt give me any luck and now the thread hasnt had a post for a long time. -
Try the Nvidia modded DOX drivers.
-
Does the game actually start up, or is it stuck on the Steam end?
-
-
Sorry about that. -

ChaosX5, I merged your two TF2 threads since they were essentially talking about the same problem. You should be able to get more consolidated answers this way.

Here's the driver i'm using:

Click the "64" link, download and install. -
Ok so heres my current issue that I copy pasted from another forum I posted in:
So I got a new laptop the other day and it came with vista 64bit, the first thing I did was download the latest driver in the nvidia's new mobile drivers section and everything works perfectly except TF2, Ive been told to install an older driver from laptopvideo2go.com and install that but the installer tells me to uninstall old drivers before so I went in programs and features and uninstalled nvidia drivers and everytime I re-booted it would re-install itself but I didnt realize it was installing the HDMI audio driver. So now when I go to device manager my video card shows as VGA adapter and up-to-date however I have a nvidia 9800gts and when I try to install drivers by clicking update driver from device manager it says its up-to-date. When I try double clicking on my driver installer it says something about nvidia not detecting hardware. When I try to uninstall the vga adapter driver it reinstalls on boot and doesnt let me cancel it. Please Help Im going through hell and back just to play TF2. I can also do a system restore to return back to my previous drivers if needed.
EDIT: Please dont say Driver Sweeper, that program messed everything up and I had to do a system restore.
EDIT 2: Ive been asked on that forum if I have the modded inf. I have no idea what that is maybe someone could help me get it? -
Did you try the driver i linked to? You shouldn't need a modded inf or to un-install the old driver for it.
-
-
OK so try this:
http://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=22294
The modded in is there too.
Download both the driver and the inf,
extract the driver to any folder,
copy the inf into the driver folder and overwrite when prompted,
then either install the driver from your control panel or the application in the folder. -
-
Also, have you tried just simply reinstalling TF2? I play TF2 as well, and have the common error of it crashing when I exit (but then again, I close it by typing "exit" in the console which is faster.).
-
Install succesful! Noow to test TF2*crosses finger*...again.
-
Okay. Good luck.
If you do have to reinstall TF2, I believe you can try "Verify game file integrity" (I think that's the option) first, I don't know if that will help in your case. For me I chose the "Delete Game Cache Files" option and just redownloaded it (took about an hour) -
-
Well I have this same issue, but it has not compromised the way how I play TF2, and TF2 still works. So, as they say...
"If it aint broke don't try to fix it", hehe.
EDIT: People list this as a common issue, and only one post I saw said something about if you wait >30 seconds after disconnecting THEN exit it doesn't happen...
