tf2 has alwys crashed for me whenever it loaded up a server and would freeze at the splash screen for the server/website with a looping sound until i would ctrl+alt+del....well i found the answer below:
in case you want to disable html motd you need to create a file "textwindow_temp.html" in "\Steam\SteamApps\<user>\team fortress 2\tf".
The simple write protection is not enough you need to use the security tab and disable read/write access for your windows user to the file
i create this file and disable the read write access but everytime i restart the computer or something either the read/write is brought back to before OR the .html document will be gone completely.
so my question is - is there a way i can make it so that the read/write access stays disabled and doesn't dissapear? its just an annoying thing to do when i want to jump on.
thanks for any help
BTW i use vista

no one knows how to do this?

Make the File read only? it worked for me in SplinterCell Double agent where i did to make a file uneditable so the game settings wont be changed, maybe it works for you.

Thank you so much for this solution. It solved the problem of my TF2 freezing with looping sound at the MOTD screen, and also freezing at SourceTunes when I wanted to listen to music on a server that has it. I will have to see if the file is gone or its permissions are reset when I restart my computer.
