so what do you think. i think nvidia is too smart(hopefully) to @#$% up again
-
Eh those are Apple computers, they'll never see a game anyway
Joking aside, nah, I bet the 9 series is fine... You'd have seen a lot worse than some random Apple reports already from other companies using 9 series cards, don't you think? -

I believe that the packaging has been fixed. This is just more propaganda from The Inquirer to get people riled up over nothing. I just hope it doesn't get perpetuated too far.
Also lol
Fanboyism at its finest (worst?) -
Macbooks dont need graphics, they think different.
For example, the new mirror finish LCD. Now with the ability to render everything behind you at the speed of light, the need for a graphics card in order to process everything actually inside the LCD is useless. -

Okay - your hobby is collecting nVidia stuff. That's cool. I collect some retro PC components. I've got a ton of processors probably older than you are. I can see that as a hobby. But that doesn't mean that ATI is bad or even worse necessarily. Consider it like sports - people tend to love one team for a sport. They'll root for their team even when their team is losing. Nvidia won't always have the best video cards either - for example, right now ATI is in the lead for the most powerful desktop card. If you want to continue using nVidia in a time like this because you like them - that's fine. But don't claim that nVidia is better right now, because they aren't.

i wasn't trying to create a @#$$ing flamewar so stay ON TOPIC please.

Well as long as you're a fan, but aren't becoming blind then it's fine
.
At least you acknowledge ATI has some good points(the price/performance ratio is their strongest atm). The thing I dislike are fans who become oblivious to other things due to their "passion" about something they cannot be reasoned with through common sense.
As long as you keep it to a controllable level I see no wrong in it
Anyways, back to topic...
I don't think the 9xxx series are going to have problems. Those reports seem quite limited so unless we see them popping up a lot around the place, then IMO the 9xxx series will be ok for now.
The 9600M GT has been around the market for a long time and it is currently the most widespread mid-range GPU and we've yet to hear many accounts of them failing. -
-
do you think the GPU's are faulty
-
The last time I tried SLi was with two 3Dfx Voodoo 2's, so I'm pretty behind on the multi-GPU performance for quite some time.
The only thing I don't like about SLi or Crossfire is their reliance on the drivers. If it doesn't work on a game, then you will have to play with the rendering options and/or wait for new drivers. I'm satisfied with single GPU solutions right now; it's not the fastest, but it's more consistent. Ten years later, and we still have microstuttering in multi-GPU solutions. Ridiculous.

For being a yellow journalism news source, that site sure does get a lot of serious attention.. When Nvidia figured out what the problem was they changed it. Prob the only reason they didn't come out and deny the extra rumors to begin with was that they'd have to explain that the reason the ones now are not effected is that they were already fixed. Well if they were already fixed, they already knew before they released a statement. That leaves them open to that lawsuit they're now having to deal with - admitting guilt prob not a good strategy for them. Anyway, I don't see any reason to believe these laptops coming out MONTHS after the problem are effected.
As for some of the above comments.. the only downside to ATI is the driver support, or lack there of. Nvidia has always sicked serious in terms of this. If ATI would get it together on the driver end then they'd seriously dominate. -
Some people dont want TOTAL domination. Regular people, who want systems that can pull off good FPS, go for a nicely priced phenom or c2q, and not the higer end $600+ bull. Take your fanboyism somewhere else. You haven't answered the question in this thread in your 5+ posts in it.
And on topic, hopefully this doesnt end up like the Maple Leaf situation. Once you lose your rep, you're done. Going to be very hard to build it back up. hopefully nvidia smartens up. -
hmm maybe it was a good idea the mod took away that third poll question.nvm

I bet its apples cooling.
-
There is of course the possibility the 9xxx series is faulty again ...
But there is also a good possibility the MBP have poor cooling.
At this point, either can be correct.
We still don't have enough evidence really.
I suggest to people to be cautious and monitor their temps of their 9xxx cards just in case.
I bought my Acer 5930G with 9600m GT GDDR in late October.
Granted, that's not enough time, but for now, the gpu temps are low.
about 44 deg C in idle mode and about 60 deg C under full load (perhaps going up to 65 max).
I'm also using Zalman Cooler to reduce the overall temps by 10 deg. -
Has anyone ever dissected a Macbook? It looks to thin to have an adequate cooling system in my opinion.
-
No but it's not their fault!
-
ive had absolutely no problems with my 9500m GS, which supposedly uses the same core as the 8600GT
on idle I'm at 47-50C
on load 60-65C -

Well I never heard a definitive answer from Nvidia with the 8 series mixup (doesnt mean they didnt address it but all i saw was pr BS) so you can't really discount these accusations. Add to that it took awhile for alot of gpu's (8600gt) to start having problems and its still possible for the 9600gt. We will probably never know for sure.
-
What about the 9500M GS which should be a die shrink from the 8600M GT? Any issues reported up till now?
-
i think they are fine, even the last 8600GTs produced like mine have been running pretty cool too, they probably fixed the problem to save their asses.
-
The thing is its maybe an Acer 5920g issue, but my card without the cooler is in the 55-60C range on idle and can go up to 90-95C after gaming. But then again the whole laptop is rather hot and the vents are quite small if you ask me. I am gonna try cleaning the vents or just leave it without the bottom plate while on the cooler so it gets better circulation. Any other suggestions?

Well we can probably begin to be skeptical if the problem appears in other notebooks, but if it only appears on one particular type of notebook, probably the notebook's design is more to blame than the actual part.
the nVidia 9xxx series faulty?
