I would seriously consider bumping up that processor to a Core Duo . . getting a Solo is a waste of money - the Duo, since it has two processing cores, will be much faster for any sort of multitasking, plus improves overall system performance. Getting the X1400 256MB vs. the X1300 will give you a signifigant performance boost in games.

The configuration you posted should be fine for most games, but the experience will be a lot better with the X1400. 1GB of memory is almost a must these days for gaming performance.

    So basically:
    -1GB RAM
    -Core Duo CPU
    -X1400 256MB

yea 1 gig is definatly nessisary for doing anything any more. do you know if the x1300 is a dedicated or shared card... i wasnt to sure when i was lookin stuff up on it or does it have some dedicated and the rest is shared?

The X1300 "128MB" is actually 64MB dedicated and 64MB shared from the main system memory (HyperMemory). It is quite confusing to the customer - Dell and other companies are essentially tricking the consumer into thinking the card is better than it really is.
Same goes for the "256MB" X1400 - it is half and half.

I would agree with Chaz on the upgrades he suggests. The configuration in your original post will play games, but I would bet you would get much better results with the upgrades.

    Good luck!

With Dell, the X1400 and X1300 are half and half. With the X1100 and 200M, they are usually ALL shared. This however, varies from notebook to notebook, so you have to do your research on particular models to really figure it out.
