Hey guys, im sure this has been asked before but I searched and searched and couldn't find anything like it. Anyway I have a mediocre set up, I don't expect to be hitting high frame rates, I just want to play the game and waste some time. when I try to install a demo like bioshock, crysis, COD4, or anything bigger than 1 gig nothing happens, but my computer slows waaaaay down. The ctrl+alt+dlt doesn't show anything major process, nonetheless the computer turns to stone. I waited several minutes, 30+ and nothing happens. So I shut down and start over. Anyone know why this happens? any fixes?
Specs
vostro 1500
1.6 dual core intel
2 gig ram
vista ultimate
128 nvidia 8400m.
Don't tell me the computer wont run those games due to graphics, i just want to know why the computer wont even respond to the install request.

I've been installing game demos myself and don't have the same problem. Ensure the battery is set to high performance and temporarily turn off vista UAC when installing demos.

I've had to wait for several minutes...but never 30. It has always seemed to pull through in the end but certainly leaves much to be desired. I've gone as long as 10-15 (Crysis).

Interesting, I actually run into this problem on my desktop and laptop at times. I don't know what the issue is...

Yup, that happened to me too, but nothing over 10 minutes i guess. I was still surprised that it took quite a while to open, extract the files and execute the installation file. At first I thought my computer froze, so I rebooted it everytime I had to wait for over a minute. I did this several times thinking I may have dowoladed a corrupted files, so I re-downloaded, but still no luck with the installation. So what was my solution? JUST WAIT! It will install. It just takes much longer than usual (note sure why, but i think its got something to do with the extraction process). If you waited for 30+ min, try waiting for an hour. It WILL and should install. Keep in mind that I'm using a 2.4 Ghz Conroe CPU on my Asus C90S, so your 1.6ghz mobile CPU may take a much longer time for the file to execute. Plus, Vista doesn't help to speed up the process either.

Is this actually installing the demo or just extracting a zip file you downloaded before running the setup?
I had problems actually extracting the CoD4 demo with the windows extractor - it would just sit there for ages and then stop responding. It extracted fine using 7zip though so if you're having this problem then try that.
The extraction on the actual setup ran fine though - 2.0 ghz c2d, 2 gig RAM and Vista... -
try turning off UAC

patience was the key. I double clicked and came back 20 mins later and it was asking me if I wanted to install the demo. Thats a long time to extract the zipped files. Oh well. Thanks for all your help guys, I was sure something was wrong, turns out it was me.
On a side note, COD4....wow. My heart was pounding, sweet game.
trying to install large game demos and vista nearly comes to a hault??
