Laptops, in most cases (99% of time), do not behave like desktops, so it's not that easy and straightforward to upgrade the parts inside it...

You could upgrade the CPU, but it won't be an easy task... Now, the main problem you have is the Graphic Card, in this case, a integrated graphic card... You can't upgrade that, so even if you upgrade the CPU, you'll be getting around the same performance... So the final answer is no, you can't get the laptop to run MW2 and BC2, at least not with eye candy and good framerates...

That GPU cant be changed but you can try the VDock to hook up an external GPU for gaming.

Your laptop just isnt powerful enough to run either game. Low end processor and lack of dedicated graphics. You will need to buy a new computer to play games honestly.

You cannot upgrade your GPU, since it is permanently soldered to the motherboard. You can upgrade your CPU but depending on what games you play, it will be a marginal performance upgrade if your GPU can't keep up.

You can do nothing. You have an integrated Intel GPU, which isn't suited for any modern gaming, not even at minimum settings. It cannot be upgraded or made to run ay faster.

No sorry mate, not with toshiba (I have only ever owned toshiba notebooks, my next notebook will be MSI).

If you want cheap gaming, look at MSI and gateway.

    What's your budget?

    1. DIY ViDock - would improve your graphics performance by 10x or more. If you can do a x2 link, then could have some monster FPS with a HD5xxx.

    2. Pinmod PLL overclock the cpu or upgrade the CPU

    3. Convert primary HDD bay to house a SSD like X25M G2, put HDD in optical bay caddy.

See sig for details on all of the above.

    It's up to you.

Here is a good one under 1K:
Asus G60VX at bestbuy, just search for the SKU: 9556072.

DIY ViDock Gaming system, eg: Asus G51VX/G50VT/G60VX/G71GX, MSI GT627
    Pros
    - uses your existing notebook, likely with better battery life than a gaming system.
    - l1/4-1/2 the price of a gaming box, depending on what video card you go for.
    (HD5750, HD5770, HD5830 good budget choices)
    - parts can be reused on an expresscard 2.0 system released later this year to give monster gpu performance at x1 2.0 link speed.
    - can time-share the DIY VIDock with other local notebook users
    - can upgrade the gpu without replacing the whole system

    Cons
    - need to game at a docked location with external LCD.
    - need to have some technical expertise to setup.

    Pros
    - does what it intends out of the box.

    Cons
    - poor battery life, likely heavier due to more cooling requirements.
    - 2-3 times more cost
If it was me, I'd look for a really cheap 9800M system (MSI GT627/G50VT) to game on now OR otherwise get a DIY ViDock to line up gaming in an expresscard 2.0 system in the near future. If your system can do x2 1.0, I'd do a DIY ViDock with a HD58xx now as it would give performance like higher-end gaming systems for much less $$.

    Most games on high.

The nvidia 260M is very good, I think about the same (or a little better) as the ati 4850.

get the MSI GT725 or GT729.. with Q9000 and ATI 4850... should play all games on high...if u got less cash , u can get the MSI GT628 which is older version with same specs... ASUS G60 is good but why buy it if u can get a better MSI laptop and which can be overclocked at a press of a button with turbo boost in MSI laptops :)

    Try this in here.

Or, read up some reviews of the aforementioned laptops and make a decision, as you are only one who can make it.

you can overclock asus laptops too. Direct console lets you OC the CPU. Unless your talking about overclocking the GPU.

G50vt is old... like 2008... G60 is 2009... in MSI gaming laptops , there's a button which u can press on AC power... it automatically overclocks CPU and GPU i think... and this is insured in warranty somemore... i would get the MSI GT725 or GT729 as they have core 2 quad and ATI 4850... which can play crysis on very high... mind u few laptops can do this... the newer core i7 MSI GT740 has NVDIA GTS250M which is way weaker...

is Ati 4850 better than g60vx 's graphic card ?

Buy one with an MXM GPU, it would be great if it's MXM3b.

Then you would have the option to upgrade the GPU whenever you want.

It was... in US and u can also buy it in UK on Dixons...

As for the Asus , if ppl didn't tell u this... they run hot and u can literally roast urself on them... u need to tweak them to make them run...as for MSI , they run cool and u should have no problem... if i were u , i'd spend the extra cash and get GT725 or GT729...

If you have the space for a desktop, it's probably worth getting.
Great thing about desktops is that it's easy to upgrade and overclock.

Since you already have a notebook, you might as well have a desktop for gaming and keep the notebook for the portability.

Rubbish, my G50vt-X5 is perfectly cool and calm, the only time the fan gets up to full speed is if the lappy is running on the bed or a sofa and all the air vents underneath are blocked.

I am sure there are a few ASUS models that run hot, but from my experience the newer ones are just fine. If you don't own one try not to limit the guy's options by simply dismissing a whole brand of laptops just because you might have heard a guy in the pub saying he had a problem with his laptop one time.

And as for having to "tweak them to make them run", what are you talking about? Turn it on, it runs. It runs damn fast too, for a laptop that cost <$700.

Why is the internet full of people too willing to provide opinions on things they have no firsthand experience of?
