    Hi guys,

got myself an hd3650 for my 5920g.Installed it following this It runs at about 50-52 degrees C on idle, but jumps to more than 90 degrees when i play Cod:mw2. I want to try undervolting the card by flashing the vbios. I figure, i should be getting less than 90 degrees at least in the stock speeds (600e/500m) step by step help please.

The closest i can find in the forum is flashing an nvidia, and it doesn't exactly explain how to dos boot and stuff.

Please tell us, how did the swap out go? I assume you originally had either the 9500M GS or the 8600M GT/GS, right?

Did you have to redesign a heatsink? Any other details that you could share?

I think i had the 8600 mgs. It burned out i think.

Anyway, swap went great i guess. My laptop is a 5920g. No heatsink redesign. I just took out the thermal pads, cleaned everything there, applied as5 on both sides of a piece of copper, put the copper in, and installed the hd 3650.

Initially, i had another guy put it, but i think he put a piece of copper that was too thin, and he didn't use as5. So i put in a bigger piece of copper and applied as5. I didn't think it would be that easy. Just follow the link i posted. It provides for the general idea on how to it.

gpu runs 600e/500m. idle temp is about 50 degrees. temp reaches low/mid 90s while playing mw2. I tried experimenting between putting as5 blobs, and spreading it, but found no big change. Just don't put too much i guess.

im trying to undervolt it a little bit just to have loaded temp at mid 80s and ill be happy. But flashing the gpu is harder and scarier than installing it.

Hmm, that's good then. The swap out with the Compal IFL90 didn't quite go as easy as this, from what I understand.

What made you go for the 3650? You could have gotten a 4650 which performs 30% better, yet is still fairly cheap.

It was more of necessity. my 8600 broke so i needed the new card. It's easier to get a 3650 than a 4650. maybe in the future...

90 degrees on Mw2? holy crap
When i have Gpuz running monitoring my temps when im gaming, i think the most ive gotten is 67-70 degrees while running street fighter 4, but i recently cleaned out the dust from my vents and i saw a change of about 4-5 degrees in cpu temps so gpu should follow accordingly.

Yeah, but the remember, the A300 has a surprisingly good cooling system. The 5920G less so. The 5920G with the 9500M GS will easily get up to 90C, it's a fairly hot laptop.

the 9600m gt or 4650 upgrade would really be great. I'll probably upgrade to one of those in the future, when the prices go down and availability goes up.

and I also think 90 degrees is hot, especially when i see some enjoying 70-80 degrees under load. that's why i want to undervolt by flashing (because i don't want other programs running behind the scenes).

flashing though, according to the guide, requires a floppy drive, which i don't have.

anyway, im installing windows 7 soon. maybe that will help my temps haha

Couldn't you flash via a USB flash drive?

And Windows 7 doesn't help temperatures. I have noticed no difference in either Vista or 7.

yep. i tried doing it, using freedos, but something didn't work. the flashing guide i found here needed a floppy. Correct me if im wrong, and feel free to point me to good undervolting flashing guides.

that's what this thread is about anyway :)
