in september i recieved a new alienware m11x r2 for my 18th birthday. Mine has the core i5 processor and 4gb ram. is it possible to upgrade the i5 to an i7 at this point? where could the processor be found to buy, and where could installation be done? i have never really worked inside my computers and would rather not run the risk of hurting something trying to upgrade it if such an upgrade is possible.

I don't believe you can upgrade the processor. The i5 and i7 difference is minimal for gaming unless you're a heavy Adobe/3D/Maya user.
Keep in mind you will void your warranty if anything goes wrong. -

You can get the ULVs and LVs with pins but if its in a laptop then it definitely wont have them. Its soldered, just like the GPU.
upgrade possible?
