i've been having issues with my alienware m17 r4 with game glitches, so through tech support i got upgraded to a 680 from my 7970, even though i still think its my hard drive causing the glitches. But i cant find any new reviews on the dell 680m vs the dell 7970m with the newest drivers. could anyone help me and give me a heads up if it was a good trade or not?

P.S. i think its funny they r spending all this money on upgrading me with this when i will prolly get them to give me a hard drive too. heaven forbid they actually listen to the caller instead of tryin to prove them wrong. lol.

It is a pretty big upgrade, especially if you do some light overclocking. It will run cooler, has more features, and better drivers.

In terms of price is like twice as expensive as the 7970m, so pretty massive upgrade.

If a $350 upgrade make the machine worse then dell/nvidia probably going out of business :)

Umm.... the 7970 has 0 Enduro issues on the M17x. It runs just as well as the 680m when you shut Enduro off in the BIOS. Why pay more for the 680?

Pretty sure OP is not paying for the upgrade.

Ah I see. So support is giving it to him for free? Nice. I still don't view it as a performance upgrade though, unless it fixes the problem he's having. That seems unlikely though...

Stock performance is about equal. 680m seems to OC a little better than 7970m and runs cooler. Alienware laptops can disable Enduro so no issues there. I'd say if it's a free swap, why not. I think nVidia drivers are more mature, otherwise I wouldn't pay a dime to upgrade if my laptop had the option to run the GPU dedicated.

I could not be happier with the 680m in my R4 especially with 120hz screen and no Optimus to tangle with . 400nits of blinding joy it is :D

Compared to the 7970m i had in my M18x yeah i am really digging it.

Id say you made out just fine.
