Just a quick note...may laptop is in my sig..
I recently installed one of the latest laptopvideo2go drivers... it hink the 169.04's, and stole 2x2GB memory sticks from newegg ( I think 65 bucks sounds like a steal, dont you!)
Using all the initial settings in 3dmark06...1280x1024 res, etc..no overclocking, i'm scoring 3234....that's up from 2950 (give or take 50)....
I wasnt expecting such a nice improvement![]()
btw, i'm using XP
edit: hahaha cant believe i spelled upgrading wrong in the subject, darn

4 GB of RAM over 1 GB of RAM is definitely going to improve system performance, but using 3DMark06 is a little misleading.
I'm pretty sure the range of error in 3DMark is 300 points. -
Naah, not at that level, not even close. However the driver update is most likely a large part of that score increase.
-
then waht does the ram improve? im am thinking about upgrading from 2 to 4 gb, how would i notice any difference? im using 32-bits vista btw
-
no really 2gb is enough for vista

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
3D mark scores can eaily vary by several hundred points from one run to the next, thats why most benchmark sites run a batch of 20 or so runs, and give an average score.
For general use, office apps, media playback, interent etc 2gb is enough, many games that are out nowadays will takes advantage of the extra ram, and with the affordability of DDR2 modules these days, might as well max the machine, I dont need 8GB of ram in my desktop, but it would only cost me $60 bucks to do so, so I probably will fairly soon. -
oops..........
-
It`s a first. My money is on the driver change and less use of paging file,so less cpu usage or something.
Those 300 points might be accounted into a system with less things running in the background. -
Wouldn't adding more ram reduce the swapping and then improve the fps enough to warrant an increase of the 3dmark score?
upgradeing 1 GB to 4GB ram gave me +300 in 3dmark06
