If i have a notebook that supports nvidia optiums (660m + hd4000) and i connect my notebook to an external monitor, is it possible to use the 660m to power the graphics on external monitor if I want to play a game? my notebook only has an hdmi out and I think it is connected to the hd4000 and not to the 660m
please let me know if this works, thx

On Optimus all the traffic from the 660m is routed to the HD 4000 then outputted to the monitor & any external outputs, so dont worry to much about it.

You'll have to access the Intel Graphics Properties (or control panel) to make any changes to resolution, refresh rate, and color of the display. But when you game the 660 will kick in and take over. It makes sense from a power standpoint seeing that the dGPU is off most of the time while doing light computing.

I might be mistaken, but I have an Alienware m14x r1 that I was using as a 'desktop' for most of last year and it seemed like it was auto-defaulting to the 555m (i.e. I could change resolution, etc from the nVidia control panel and never touched the Intel one).
use nvidia graphics on external display?
