Pretty sure part of it is the ram's fault.
Also, what resolution were you running the test on?

    What notebook is this?

And yes, a Go7950GTX with an FX-55 should be getting at least 7000, bare minimum I would think. Could you try running 3dmark06?

Make sure you're plugged in when running any benchmarks, and that you're on the highest performance mode. Also make sure there aren't any background processes going on like virus scanning or indexing or anything.

As far as I know, the free version of 3dMark runs on the resolution your desktop is set at. If that is the score at 1024x768 and on the '05 version, then something is very messed up (the 7000 quoted by odin is on 1280x1024 and '06 version which uses a lower scale of scoring). You do have a video driver installed, right? Perhaps try a different one, e.g. from http://laptopvideo2go.com

3dmark05 runs always at 1024x768. 3dmark06 runs at 1280x1024 if it can, if your resolution's not high enough it defaults down to 1280x800 or so. (That's for the free versions, at least)

And the 7000 score I'm talking about is indeed for 3dmark05 at 1024x768, that's the minimum score you should get with a Go7950GTX. A good score would be around 9000 I believe. However, I know that the m7700's were notorious for having problems with the SLI setup - I always though it was due to poor SLI implementation on the chipset, but perhaps it's due to the cards themselves?

I'll be really interested to see the '06 score, so I can compare it with other m7700 owners.

    Well, better than nothing :p

Do you have any spare computer parts around? Like dtwn83 said, it might be a hardware issue, e.g. with RAM, so maybe replacing them may find the issue. When idle, what is your CPU usage, free memory etc.? Do you have other 30 processes running and/or many unneeded services? Info can be found through Task manager Ctrl-Shift-Esc > Performance tab, Processes tab and Start > run > cmd > services.msc

Good, at least now it is in an acceptable range and reduces possibility of hardware problems. Was that score using 1280x1024?

Perhaps last time there was a driver conflict due to an improper upgrade.

Doesn't slow RAM affect scores as well?

Hes referring to the speed of the RAM, not the amount of RAM. (PC3200 instead of 2GB)

As far as I know you cannot move up to DDR2 with your current motherboard, I'd say your at optimal performance and don't need to upgrade anything at this time.

Yup, ~4500 in '06 and around 9000 in '05 is where your machine should be, so you're fine. I wouldn't worry about the ram, it's really a non-issue.

Yes, CPU/GPU are the bottlenecks to be concerned about.

    Other way around right?
