    hi,

    i have a hug problem with my laptop ( x200 )

the laptop has an 8700m gt card but i simply cannot install the drivers or i do not know what is wrong .

i tried the drivers from www.tweakforce.com when when i try to install them it says that the video card is not compatible and the installer closes. I also tried to install version 196.04 using the moded inf from laptopvidoe to 2 but if i try to update the drivers from device manager it will not update them saying that windows encountered an error and could not update the drivers.

If i try to install them via the setup it will just go threw it very fast and tells me that i need to restart but no driver what so ever was installed.

i tried the moded inf with other versions and the same thing happens.

I even formated my hdd and installed a fresh copy of windows , and still this happens.

what am i supposed to do ? currently i have installed the drivers 169.09 from nvidia.com and i selected the card as 8600gt as this is the only way the drivers will be installed. but now i tried to run 3dmark05 and i only get like 4000 points with all the settings left default , and i understood that it should do at least 8000 .

    can someone PLEASe help ?

    PS:
    important note :
    - i firstly installed the video driver from toshiba's website . Could this cause this ?
    - the drivers downloaded from xtreme G are XTreme-G 169.04 Vista 32bit and also tried XTreme-G 167.26 Vista 32bit

    thank you,
    claudiu

    just to make things sure:

1st i unpack the drivers in C:/nvidia or something . Then i replace the inf in that folder with the moded one. the i start the installer - it will run it but nothing will be installed , it will just finish the installer saying that everything was installed

also , i tried from device manager . update driver , i select the ini file , and then after i click next it says that windows was not able to install the drivers . but i if run a normal inf and choose 8600 instead of 8700 windows will install the drivers. But as i said it runs POOR

Step 1 - Driver and modded INF download
-First you need to aquire both:
    1) a modded inf
    2) the correct version of the driver set that the inf was written for.
(the international one for laptopvideo2go ones)

Step 2 -Prep a driver install directory
-decompress the driver to that directory.
-Copy the modded inf over the default one.

Step 3 - uninstall previous driver (not always necessary, but is best for someone having issues)
    -Uninstall previous driver(s) and restart
(you should be using the "standard VGA" driver)

Step 4 - install the driver
-Execute the Setup.exe in the install directory you prepared with the modded inf copied to it.

I think you are using the wrong INF or have gotten a bad modded inf.

thanks kernal . i will try again tomorow.

before this i have 2 more questions . I got all the LaptopVideo2Go_INF_files from nvidia's forum . what driver version is best for 8700 ? from what i understood is 169.09 ? Or do you recommend another driver ?
what driver are you using on your 8700 card ?

    best regards,
    claudiu

    later edit :
also , is it ok to use the drivers from nvidia's website and to use the moded INF with it ? Because i cannot download the drivers from laptop2go because it's offline , so i would need to download the drivers from elsewhere since i already have all the INFs

I am using 169.04, mostly because I have read the newer drivers don't do much for us and I am confortable with the performance, stability level and overclocking available with these drivers.

I'll probably try 169.12, but haven't felt any real need.

Odd that nvidia's official forum would have modded inf files...
(Nvidia does not support laptop GPUs)

also , should i download the english version or internation ?

i have found the problem .

I downloaded the INTERNATIONAL version of 196.04 and the installation was great.

Then i ran some test and i found out that the English version for .04 , .09 , .12 could not be installed. I then tested the international version for all 3 and there were no problems.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

    thank you again kernalpanic,

    best regards,
    claudiu
