i just downloaded a demo game from steam for my mother (you wouldnt think i would play mahjong would you) and avg pro was running a scan in the background.
once the scan finished it said i had a win32/Heur virus from the game.

any idea if this is one of those mistaken identitys from avg or could steam be actually corrupted like many hundreds of forums and sites that had been attacked this week.

honestly, I think that it's just an AVG glitch. I think that a game as famous as mahjong would not have a virus packed in.

    Most probably a false positive.

AVG is like a festival of false positives at the best of times.

Almost definitely a false positive. Heuristics let you catch many viruses that would've otherwise fooled AV software, but the more thorough they are, the more false positives you get.

Thats why you should use AVAST! I use that and its good and never goes off unless the site im viewing has viruses on it. I would recommend it to anyone.

Couldn't agree more with that, at times a premature virus alarm ;)

I have used AVG, Kapersky and Avast.

AVG.....not bad, it's free.....did it's job with a couple hitches here and there.

Kapersky......not stop problems and conflicts with every other piece of software on my system. If you like to deal with headaches or are into solving problems, then by all means, pay for it.

Avast... been in use for a little over a year since I stopped using Kapersky and my systems (1 lappy, 3 desktops) have been purrin like kittens.

I honestly have no idea how anyone can say Kapersky = chilled unless you are using your computer to do nothing but display a screen saver (and even then you may experience conflicts..)

But those are just from my own personal experiences. Your milage may vary ;)

I agree with ashveratu. Ever since I started using Avast! I was happy. Simple to install and setup, and unlike AVG, which I used for a few years previous, it gave frequent false positives. I used the Kaspersky free trial and seemed like I had too much interaction with it. Anti-Virus should be transparent to the user for the most part.

Isn't Eset (Nod32) supposed to be the best though? I haven't tried it. But IMHO, if you can get a reliable freeware anti-virus like Avast, I won't shell out $50 a year.

Another +1 for Avast Antivirus here. I have used that for years and have never had any conflicts, issues and false positives are as rare as decent console to PC ports.

For some reason Avast keeps saying my Zune software is a virus...but I'll let it go as a false positive since it's obviously not. Otherwise, I'm a happy camper with Avast on all of my computers.

AVAST! Is awesome i've been using it long and these guys seriously deserve donations and such. Its so great it doesnt interfere with anything you are doing.

Again as stated above, my favorite feature is when you go to a site that has a virus and the pop up alarm comes up. As soon as you enter it lets you exit righ away, pretty sweet.

    NOD32 anyone...

TBH, if you think about what you click and install most people would never need AV.
spyware on the other hand :(
