Will Vista run DirectX 9.0c games? I had read somewhere that DX10 will not be backwards compatible, and Vista contains DX10...anyone know?

It is fully compatible. DX10 has its own version of DX9 called DX9l. If you read something about DX10 not being backwards compatible it was eather really old info when it was just speculation or they are being very literal in the fact that DX10 itself doesnt do DX9 but it contains within it the "codec" to do DX9 games.

Vista is backward compatible with most games in the DX9 era. This backward compatibility is to ensure that past and current games will still be able to played while the gaming industries transition to the DX10 standard.

You may require specific DX9c runtime files on certain games, but you will be prompted to install them (just as you would on XP).

Also, the Aero GUI in Vista is run entirely by DX9 (so compatibility must exist within the platform).

I have found the compatability modes in vista superior to those in XP. Vista has DX10 and DX9 running side by side.

What about DX8 games? Will a DX10 card run those?

lol. yes. its all backwards compatible. 64 bit cpu's can run 32 bit os'es.

dual core cpu's can run single threads.

    dx10 gpu's can do dx9, 8, whatever.

Yay! Problem is, Vista won't let me... install some older games.

Dual boot with XP time methinks... hmm...

I feel like a slave to Vista. Vista, can I please install this game? No? :(
