I have an intel 5100 wireless card. I've tried installing xp drivers, running anti vista lag, and WLAN Optimizer. I can't get rid of the stupid lag spikes every 60 seconds! it makes most games unplayable on the internet. Does anyone have any fix for this?

BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
check the processor temperature?
check if youre running on performance mode? -
I found the fix. I changed the advanced settings for the driver under the device manager to only work with 802.11g. no more lag! yay!

or, install XP.. I had the same issue on my desktop when it used to run wireless.. XP fixed it
Or try windows 7? -
can you tell me the steps how to do this. I go to contro panel>device manager>network adapters> then what?
-
right click the wireless network adapter. Select Properties.
Then, select the Advanced tab. First thing you want to do is make sure 802.11n mode is disabled. Then, under wireless mode change to 802.11g. By the way, after completing these steps I had to run WLAN optimizer too. If you google it you should be able to find a free download. -
I get to advanced tab but I only have 802.11b Preamble highlighted on the left property box and Long and Short on the right drop down box. no 802.11n or option for g.

ok you must have a different card then I have. Have you tried running the WLAN optimizer? You can tell if it's working by typing in ping -t (your wireless access point ip address) then hit enter. for example, my routers ip address is 192.168.0.1. so I pull up the command prompt, type "ping -t 192.168.0.1" this will continually ping the router over and over again. Under "Time" it will show how long it's taking to ping. Usually I'm getting 1 to 4 ms. however, every 60 seconds it would spike up to 300 ms for about 4 pings. changing what I mentioned above fixed it.
Certain wireless cards only support certain kinds of wireless protocol's. I have the intel 5100 which supports 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n. sounds like yours only supports 802.11b. My card was polling for the other 2 protocols even though I was only using 802.11g. disabling the other two and running WLAN optimizer fixed this.
Hope this helps! -
