I know everyones heard about stuttering problems in steam all the time. Mine is weird though, I can play fine with high settings, 60 fps, for about 20 minutes then all of a sudden the game sound loops and locks up, but only as long as im pressing any key. As soon as I let go it unlocks, and back to smooth 60 fps. As soon as I try and move again it jitters again.
After a few minutes of trying to play it like that, it starts system beeping when I press any of the keys.
My gpu temps get to about 75-77C max which is warm but I wouldnt think too hot?
Im running vista 32bit on an ASUS m50sv, 3 gb ram, 9500gs, t9300, forceware 164.58

That, my friend, is probably the lovely sound of the keyboard hardware interrupts taking precedence over the sound processing. And the beeping that you're getting if you keep it up for a while is probably the sound of a full keyboard buffer that cannot record any more key-strokes. In short, you've probably maxxed out the processing capacity of your system as it's currently configured (mostly your software setup, I'd guess) and you've hit a CPU bottleneck. -
ok is there no way to increase the buffer size?

You think I probably have a virus?

i would guess its the heat ;\ that sound is too familiar in the past for myself

75c I wouldnt think is really hot enough to cause problems like that, anyone know of a good cooler for this model asus m50sv?
-
75C is not hot...my 8600 runs around 77 when playing games.
The problem is kind of wierd though...never heard of the problem before... -
i just changed the driver to 174.31, and I was able to play for about 45 minutes then it started again, so stupid
-
its like when im still it runs fine, as soon as i tap any key on the keyboard it jumps from 30 fps to like 128 or 75 or something really high but stutters when it does that, when i release the key it goes back to normal 30 fps.. also the sound loops and screen freezes if i hold a key down for very long

DOD:S has always given me problems now and then.
And constantly gives me massive framerate fluctuations. -
), I don't think that, under normal circumstances, your CPU would be a bottleneck in the absolute sense, what I think is happening is that, due to the demands being placed on the system, probably from a badly written driver somewheres, the hardware interrupts from the keyboard - which will take priority over almost anything else, such as the audio driver - are backing up, hence the beeping from the keyboard telling you the buffer is full, and are causing stuttering of the system as each one hits the CPU and forces one or more threads to be suspended while the interrupt is serviced.
For starters, you might check to see how many background services you have going, and what sort of resources they're taking up. In particular, pay attention to networking services, such as wireless and bluetooth - even if those services are not being used (i.e., you're not connected to either), if the service is running, they're constantly polling the aether looking for potential hook-ups (yeesh, sounds like a cheap frat bar), and that can draw a lot of resources away from the things you want the computer to be doing.
There might also be other problems caused by the game itself, such as badly written drivers, and whatnot.
First thing to do is get a handle on how many processes you have going, and how many resources they're using. One useful little app is Process Explorer from Sysinternals (direct d/l here). With that, you can get not only the info that task manager provides, but also a sense of what the various dependencies are - which can be important if an otherwise innocuous service is getting seriously hung because it depends on something else that's buggy - as well as data about how the resource usage has varied over time.
Basically, I think that your problems are being caused by CPU overload - i.e., an effective CPU bottleneck - but I don't think that's because of the inherent design limitations of the system or the CPU, but rather on account of some bad interactions between the software, a buggy driver, or maybe even a virus. -
I always close everything possible in the task manager before playing any games, and ive run norton and bitdefender a few times with nothing showing up. I think it is a driver issue.. anyone know of a good thread discussing the best drivers to use with the 9500m gs?

seems like pretty much the same problem im having.. except i definitely dont have the language bar installed, sticky keys i dont think would be causing it...he has an asus though having very similar symptoms playing source games
