I just reformated, and reinstalled windows and got no performance boost!!!! all that effort! :( can anyone think of anything that my computer might need to help it, like updated drivers ect. i have installed all the ones on the disk, but i was really hoping for some kind of improvement. :( my 3d mark 05 scores went up by only 20! is there anything i might be missing after a full reinstall?

what kind of performance boost were you expecting? reinstall only removes the bloat software that came with your computer. so i dont think it would give any noticable performance boost. but you would have more resource to use tho..

Congrats tangent , you have one of the most powerfull mobile workstations money can buy today .

The only real performence boost you can get is to wait a year or so for the next gen .

Btw your machine isn't geared towards gaming so 3Dmark isn't the test to evaluate it by .

Have you gone through the tweaking guidein the dummy section? You could disbale non essential start up programs and services and use a program like TuneXP and SpeedXP.

Why would formatting give you better performance in 3dmark?
It does get rid of various bloatware and may help Windows boot times, but it typically doesn't affect games performance much, if at all.

And, it hasn't occurred to you that your system might actually be running well already? You can only optimize performance if it's not running optimally to begin with.

I love pple that base their entire computing life around a 3dmark score. Omg it only went up 20 points, instead of 200...what am I gonna do now my e-penis is not as big as other pples.

Relax with the stupid 3dmark scores, they mean very little. And who cares what # u get as long as the games u play run well?

First off you answered your own question. Find the most up to date drivers and then test them out. Second getting a 20 3dmark05 score jump is and improvement. Third formatting a HDD only resets the bits to 0 on the HDD and has little to no effect on the GPU performance. Granted if your install of windows was shody or has some errors that would impede performance to an extent. But affecting the gpu performance it doesnt. The only real performance gain youll see is that your HDD should be ALOT cleaner and things will run more smooth, due to access to data being easier. From now on defrag once a weak and clean temporary files out so you dont have to reformat again for a long time.

something many people do not know...3dmark0x, means NOTHING. some computers can game very well, but score very low 3dmark0x, and on the otherside of things, some computers score very high on 3dmark06, but game very badly. people tweak their machines for certain things..E.G. there are tweaking drivers for 3dmark0x, that will give you some gains in scores. some drivers give you FPS boosts in certain games...there are many things to take into consideration..dont worry about it.

also, your GPU isnt a gaming card, it is a workhorse.
