    1) Browse Steam, Origin, GoG, etc
    2) Find games that look interesting to you (bold bit is important)
    3) Read user reviews of said game on whatever distribution platform you're browsing
    4) Watch video reviews and/or gameplay on Youtube
    5) Make decision to purchase

    Very easy and far more effective than posting an overly broad inquiry on a message board.

    I agree with @saturnotaku that this isn't a really effective way of knowing what games to pick up, but as long as you're here, here's a couple that haven't been mentioned yet:
