hey guys im just about to sell my current laptop and get a new one.........i am curious as to which of the following GPU's is the best for gaming etc.
1: 512MB ATI mobility Radeon HD3650
2: 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
3: 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670
4: 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9500M-GE with Hybrid SLI Technology
thanks alot guys if you could please rank them from best to worst that would be appreciated........(i couldnt find much info on either the HD4570, HD3670 or the NIVIDA card) and i did take a look at the GPU chart.
cheers
-
yes thanks it was very helpful, it seems as though the HD 3670 is the more powerful GPu but i couldnt find any information about the HD 4570 i know it is new but surely someone knows something about it....
any info would be very helpful thx -
Notebookcheck isn't all that reliable. Are all the GPUs using the same type of memory (ie. all DDR2 or GDDR3)? I would rate them as follows (assuming same type): 3 > 1 > 2 > 4.
The specs for the first 3 are as follows:
HD 3670 120SP 128-bit 680MHz core/shader 800MHz memory (GDDR3)
HD 3650 is the same except slower clocks at 600/700
HD 4570 80SP 64-bit clocked at 680/800
I believe the 9500M GE is the 9400M G + 9200M GS or 9300M GS which all pretty much suck. -
yea, they compare different GPU's benchmarks with different CPUs, and then average them out.
-
i think its good enough for what he is looking for to just get a rough idea of which card is the fastest

it depends on many factors of course it will be the 3670 BUT what are you doing with this notebook? Is gaming a bigger priority for you or good gaming and battery life? Because the 4570 doesn't use much power at all and still offers excellent performance.
-
that was very helpful thanks alot, it looks like im going to be going with the notebook which has the HD3670 which is the one i was leaning towards anyway, its the dell studio XPS16 which should perform quite a bit better than my current notebook.
thanks alot guys
much appreciated. -
If your current notebook seems slow, it's either the cpu or bloatware. AMDs generally don't perform like C2Ds, but you could still drastically improve performance with some tweaking and deleting. Unless you're returning it, I don't think it's worth "upgrading" your notebook for a tiny gpu increment, but if you were upgrading it because the notebook was faulty or the cpu was slow, that's understandable.
-
well im upgrading because my friend needs a new notebook and wants my one, so basically im getting something simular to the asus and had limited choices, the dell studio XPS16 seems a good choice, it has a way more powerful CPU and more ram, bigger HD and other cool features. my friend gets a notebook that is only 3months old and i get one alittle more powerful for only alittle more money
the asus runs very well and i removed all the bloatware etc but am happy to be getting a CPU that is Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 2.4ghz, so we both win -
Ahh, sounds good, and yeah the XPS will feel noticeably more zippy
-
ok so how much difference is there between the HD3650 and the HD4570 in gaming performance?.......
-
ok so i might as well show you the specs of the 2 systems im looking at:

thanks alot guys i appreciate the help

The 4570 is highly limited by a 64 bit memory interface. It's a smaller more power efficient card, but it's only capable of light gaming. It's a step up from the HD3200 or whatever ATI's new integrated solution will be. The 3650/70 are midrange GPUs, larger die, more power consumption, higher clocks, and with 128 bit memory. The total frame buffer at 512MB is more than enough for either cards. The XPS is also probably DDR3 while the studio's 4570 is probably DDR2, further limiting memory speed.

No, the only 4570 notebooks that are currently available (i think about 3) all of them use DDR3 ram. There ARE DDR2 versions but i havent seen them appear in any notebooks yet. -
What else other than the Dell Studio 1555?
So its DDR3 not GDDR3?
Dell AU said that it is 128 bits
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/lea..._inspnnb&~lt=popup&~series=inspn&~tab=details
Do you think that it is their mistake or they can change the spec to use 128 bits?
Last question, how much does 512MB on 4570 be better over 256MB?
I know more vRAM helps will larger resolution but then Studio 1555 only has 720p screen. It costs ~US$50 to upgrade so I doubt if it is useful.
Thanks. -
anyway i ended up buying the Dell studio XPS 16, seems to tick all the boxes for my needs and has a HD3670 GPU which is an overclocked GDDR3 version of the HD3650 which i was happy with in my old laptop.
so alls well here
thanks guys -
Glad to hear you figured everything out. Please read the stickies before posting next time, your questions could have been answered by the first link in the sticky: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179833
Thanks for understanding.
what GPU is better?
