I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-S269. It has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900. I am not much of a gamer (I do have an XBox, :D) on the pc.

My question is what can this laptop handle as far as newer games?

I was at Best Buy the other day and they had this fantastic war game going on a pc. I asked the clerk what game it was and he said it was Call of Duty. I thought COD was based in WW2 times? This was a current time war game. I wouldnt mind trying that but I dont think that my lappy could handle it.

Im sure there is no way to increase this. Also since it is shared memory, can I set the graphics memory manually or does it automatically configure itself for its needs?

    Thanks in advance

It should run, but barely. Low resolutions and low settings is expected.

It was probably Battlefield 2. Unfortunately, your laptop cannot handle it. You must have a 128mb dedicated GPU to run it.

Call of Duty is WWII. Battlefield 2 is modern combat. I just got CoD and it runs fine on my laptop. I think you could set the graphics on low and it would work. All it says on the box is that it needs 32MB worth of graphics.
You won't be able to play BF2 on your laptop.

P.S. I love CoD. I need to get the second one. Just too expensive right now. :)

can my laptop handle Battlefield 2? See my signature for the details. My nVidia GeForce has only 32MB of dedicated memory by the way. The thing I'm rather dissapointed in about my laptop is the 1.3ghz processor, which isn't blisteringly quick. To give you an idea of how exactly my laptop performs in gaming, it averaged around 20FPS when playing Halo 1 on the highest video settings at a 600 x 800 resolution with the audio settings on high as well. While playing it, I see NO lad in audio or video performance. The requirements on BF2 does not state the Intel Pentium 3 as a supported processor. Will it still work?

No, you can't play it. Your video card doesn't meet the requirements, neither does the CPU.

The GMA900 is not a gaming card in any way, shape, or form, I wouldn't buy a game becuase you will be wasting your money - they just won't run unfortunately.

what out about my lappy chaz? I presume that's a No....but anyway I can enjoy some good games that are old like driver and halo. Anyway my brother should give me his Inspiron 8200 next month. He's getting a MacBook Pro...maybe I could play it on that after a RAM upgrade? But I presume that's a no as well.....but maybe, just maybe

Let's stick to the original topic of this thread, please - it's about the GMA900 and gaming.

I'd suggest reading the threads in this Gaming forum here to see what will run what.

I have a laptop with GMA900 and I can play games like Half Life and CS 1.6 fine. It could play Call of Duty no problem, Jedi Knight 2, Jedi Knight Jedi Academy, Fifa 2005, Medieval Total War, Rome Total War (battles are ok but the campaign map is slow, but you don't need good framerates there), Age of Empires (any computer can play this though), UT2004, Unreal 2 (some parts are kinda choppy), Empire Earth 2 (but it slows down when you have tons of men on the map) and that's pretty much all I've played. I also beat Half 2 Life two with GMA900 graphics. Parts can get pretty choppy, especially when there's fire, but most of the game plays fine.

And there you have it. By no means is GMA900 good for gaming, but it can get the job done.

Oh yeah... I also played the Doom 3 demo at lowest possible settings and I'd say it was playable, but not very pretty. I also played the demo for Far Cry, but on low settings and didn't really notice any choppiness (can't really remember for sure though, this was a while ago).

Basically, games made in 2003 and before should be fine, as well as a lot of 2004 games, but the most recent games are mostly too graphics intensive.

With all these discussion about what games you can play on the GMA900, don't be fooled from others telling you that it can run games in low resolution... why do you want to do that anyways? Call of Duty is avaliable for the Xbox, get that instead :p

You can play games on the GMA900, but it is to what degree people think about playing it. If you have one person play on say 640x480, then another person will say that is unacceptable and that GMA won't run it. :)

Agreed - it doesn't have to have a 128MB card to run. I ran it fine on my last laptop, which had an X700 64MB.
