At the moment im running an Asus W3j with X1600 and for now this card works fine with the usual games (Warcraft, BF2)

However, im looking to upgrade somewhere within the next 2 or 3 months because games like World In Conflict don't run without a shock.

At the moment I really don't know what to do, since there are so many new graphics cards coming out. What should I go and look for If I want a notable performance increase compared to my thrusty X1600?

    Rest of config is:

    core Duo 1,8
    2gb 667 ram
    160GB 7200 RPM disc.

Specs of the new lappie will be around the same but with slightly better proccesor ofc.

This is for a laptop, right? I don't know the specifics of your laptop, but generally the rule is you can't upgrade the gfx card on laptops. Either that or you have to buy a specific one that supports MXM (for nvidia). For ATI cards I have no clue.

8800 mobile will be released next month en masse, that's for people who demand performance and who have the cash to spend. Basically 8700 GT SLI, 8800GTX and 8800 SLI configurations will be the 3 best graphics options for laptops over the next 2 months if you can pay for it.

Considering that this seems to be for a laptop and not a desktop. I don,t think there is any way to fit a 8800 in place of a X1600. Replacing a laptop GPU is not like replacing a desktop gpu....

I don't think the OP's asking to swap the card in he Asus. He wants a new lappy (he says
at the end of the post)

Anything from HD2600 DDR2 and up shows a notable performance increase.

Its for a new laptop indeed. Have also been thinking about the HD 2600 but honestly I dont think it will be that much of a difference compared to the X1600.

Really like the 8800 cards but yes, pretty expensive... Hows the 7950 running? I can imagine that these babies drop in price once the new cards are released.
