I just got this.. but didn't open it yet... the specs are in the link, but I have the 512 video card. You think this laptop would last a while with gaming?
-
It's a pretty good laptop with a mid-range graphics card. You can play most present games at medium high graphics, and future upcoming games like Crysis will also work, but performance will be at lower settings. So yea, it’s a decent laptop for gaming.
PS. It scores at around 4.3 in Windows Vista's Experience Index, which is pretty freaking good. -
how do you know what it scores ?? i'd like to know where you found that?

It's a mid-range gaming notebook, it certainly has a nice screen. I think it should last you a while.
How much did you pay for it? -
1499 and there's a $50.00 MIR.. u think thats a good deal?? it also has a TV tuner software with it.. so it's like a DVR.. I was tring it a little bit.. it's pretty sweet! I didn't get to install any games or anything yet.. I was setting it up and getting the tv tuner to work.

That sounds like a good deal to me. Does the notebook suit you and your needs? I hope you don't plan on transporting it a lot and also hope that you don't need a lot of battery life.
-
i might transport it here and there.. why not transport it?? it's not that big... other then that.. i think i can get a good 2.5hr out of the battery... i wont be doing any hardcore tasks usually on the battery....
what games do u play with ur laptop? hey.. i'm in PA also.. -
Don't think so on the battery man, my 17inch hp could barely do 1.5. Keep in mind I had integrated graphics which is lighter on power consumption than the dedicated your getting.
-
well, when I don't play a game.. i can change setting for the battery... which lowers power or something.. i'll have to let you both know.. I was getting some nice frames on COD2... with dx7 like 180-240.. that game doesn't run right on dx9. i'll let you know about bf2 and possibly 2142.. what games do you play on ur lappy vaath? keep in mine thou.. you have a 7700.. that can't be intergrated?? i didn't think that card was made to be intergrated?
-
can the video card be upgraded in that laptop if I want too in the near future? or no?
-
Ahh i see where my post could be confusing. The 17inch i spoke of is my SECOND laptop which has an integrated x200m.
However my main uses a 7700, which really i've read only a small margin faster than a 7600 (5-10%
To the games, for shooters I play:
Unreal Tournament 2004 (older but tons of fun and cheap to buy nowadays)
FEAR - Single Player is great, multiplayer not so great to me
Battlefield 2142- Only tested it at 1024x768 with all toys on nice and smooth
Half-Life 2- I feel this is a MUST for single player gaming, graphics run maxed easily. The best part is its not all shooting, some of the puzzles and situations are real thinkers. Not to the point of frustration mind you, but each puzzle has a unique way to get past it. Also I believe it comes with Counter Strike Source which is pretty popular. I don't care for it as the ID tag for other players is delayed sometimes causing me to occasionally blow a team mates head off
Some like Supreme Command for Real Time Strategies, my personal favorite is
Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (both good) and am able to crank everything to max @ 1680x1050 but no AA (going to try AA soon). Runs well only slows down when the armies get ridiculously large.
Hmmmm what else to I play. For MMORPG's I play two:
World of Warcraft - Good game, can run at max rez with max everything np
lord of the rings online- 1680x1050 with medium-high pretty smooth
That is all I can think of at the moment, my copy of S.T.A.L.K.E.R sites on my desk awaiting to be loaded
BTW Nice system, it will serve you well! My HP 17" has yet to break anything on it. Only bought ASUS because they also came highly recommended and in my case the Asus G1 was at the right price for me!
Good luck and good gaming! -
Enjoy your rig, it looks well optioned. I'm thinking about getting a similar one in a few weeks. Tired of my X200M, as it is the third one I've had. -
-
really??? you can't upgrade the graphics? How long have you had your hp laptop for? Are they well built and not going to break or anything easily? do you play gaming pretty hard on it? also.. is it worth getting the HP servicer agreement on spills or damage? or is the laptop good and will hold up.

1.) No, you cannot upgrade your graphics card. You can only do that if you have a desktop computer.
2.) I have a dv9000t, and so far i've been happy with it. Very sturdy and very nice.
3.) Gaming is pretty good with my 512mb Go 7600. It's very decent, and for Battlefield 2142, I can play it on high and medium settings. I recommend medium settings, because it's not as laggy, and you get more FPS on it.
4.) I chose my 3 year HP service plan, and so far it's pretty good. Since I'm always bit clumsy with my coffee and water....Yes..It's very useful...lol (But, that's just me, cause I'm clusy with drinks near my computer)
5.) This laptop of mine should last for at least 5 or more years. -
I thought you could since it dedicated and not intergrated? I'll have to look into the 3yr plan possibly.. I have the whole year to think about it. I may after soo many months... what kinda specs you on on ur lapttop?? or model number?? mines the dv9334. we can help each other out if we ever have some problems.. I have battlefield 2142 also. Love it.. mine ingame name is Mastroz
are you runing windows vista?? is there anything special u need to set for the BF2142 to play on vista? like run as administrator or anything.. thanks. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
Major rule with laptops, buy what you NEED or think you will need from the start, upgrading core componesnts is not a viable option, in some cases it "can" be done, but its seldom ever practical to do so, the parts are hard to find, cost an arm and a leg if your lucky, then theres the obliteration of your warranty, and the high likely hood of totally borking the system while swapping them out.
-
"Dedicated" in a notebook simply means that the gpu is not directly integrated into the motherboard's northbridge and operates independently. Another term would be "discrete". -
ohh ok..i see.. those bastards lol..
what do you think of this laptop... dv9334 link enclosed
