Does anyone know what the 256MB go 7300 means? does it mean 256mb dedicated video memory or shared system memory of 256mb?

i ordered a inspiron 6400 with 256 mb go 7300 turbocache, and after i received it last week, i found that the momeoy card has only 128mb dedicated momory(with 256mb shared system memory).I thought dell gave me a wrong card,so i called dell and they sent me a new go 7300. Unfortunately, the new card still has 128mb dedicated memory with 256mb shared system memory.I think dell may not make the same mistakes two times, so i'm wondering whether i misunderstood the meaning of "256mb".

Thank you for giving any clue.

Turbocache means that whatever is not on the card is shared with system RAM.

So if you have a 256m Turbocache card, and only 128 is on the card itself, then the other 128 is borrowed from system ram when it is needed.

    hey.. turbocache means shared memory..
a rule of thumb: everything that uses fancy words is usually bad for you and marketing talk :)
the geforce go 7300 is a lower class graphic card, it only has a max of 64MB dedicated RAM, but borrows another almost 200MB RAM from your system..
    turbo ;)

I love how Dell just sends you a replacement card without explaining to you this basic fact. I guess the explanation is that the people at Dell don't even know what is in the computers they are selling.

I love the fact that they sent you the card and expect you to change it yourself (or am I missing something here)?

how can dell send you a new "go 7300" card ? did you send in your complete notebook ? before reading a basic thing like "the mobile 3D card guide" on this forum?

but still iam happy its all solved now . and now we know what kind of professionals dell hires.

Nope, Dell does that a lot. I don't own a Dell laptop and therefore haven't talked to technical support but I imagine that they would give you a choice to either DIY or send the thing in.

The Go7300 is probably the bare minimum for playing the latest games.
