You could get him a G51VX from Best Buy. It's $999 and is a bit more performance than a HD4670. You can look into notebooks with a 9600M GT or GT 130M in them. Notebooks with a mobility 4670 also have about the same performance.

Actually, the 4670 is a bit better than the 9600M GT and the GT 130M.

It's comparable to the 9650M GT or even the 9700M GT (maybe if it's overclocked).

I would recommend that you get an Asus G60VX when it comes out to Bestbuy, I don't think they have the G51 anymore. The GTX 260M in the G60VX probably a third better than the 4670.

They ran out? hmmm. Well the G60VX will be at Best Buy on the 22nd of October. It should be the same price from what I read in the Ad.

As the desktop HD4670 is a little bit more powerful than the mobile version, it's performance is actually closer to the 9800m GS.

The HD 4670 in my desktop, especially when OCed actually outperforms the 9800GS in my laptop. It does lose out in 3DMark, but almost every game runs better on it, despite the 128 bit memory bus. They both got 16 ROPs, but the higher GPU clock speed in the HD 4670 really lets it handle higher resolutions alot better. I was very impressed when it ran Far Cry 2 with pretty much all DX10 graphics almost maxed out at 1600 x 900 IIRC. Pretty freaking sweet for a $70 graphics card (got it in July).
