I have an intel graphics media accelerator 950, can i play rome total war or age of empires 3 with this?
If not, what PCI graphics card will i be able to buy to fit into my dell inspiron 640m with 512 ddr2 mb ram, intel centrino duo with dual core technology.

-
....you...cant change the graphics card in a laptop if its integrated like yours is. your stuck with it or buy a new laptop
-
why cant you change it tho?
-
there is no exchangeable slot, its actually soldered onto the motherboard.......the chip and the motherboard are one
-
aww my parents wont let me get another laptop, but will my gma 950 play rome total war or age of empires 3?
-
Read the sticky.
-
if you're lucky, at the lowest possible settings.
i had a desktop with a Geforce 6150 integrated and it could play age of empires 3, but would lag when many units were on the field.
i think the 6150 > GMA 950....so good luck with that. -
probably, but at the lowest setting with the lowest resolution. I am not familiar with those games so i cant act like i know.
-
In this scenario, I honestly don't think you're weak graphics are the issue... Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that the 512mb of RAM is the bottleneck here. Let me put it straight to you. You have nothing that even resembles the remote image of a gaming machine. You have a basic web-browsing and email productivity notebook. If you insist on gaming on your machine, than something like solitaire my fit what it is capable of better.
And by the way, what is your CPU?
Cheers. -
1.66 ghz intel centrino duo with dual core technology
-
if you had 1gb of RAM i think you could play it on high-Mid cuz i saw a i vid.. and a guy was playing AoE3 on his 64mb 950 card (dont really remember the graphic card but it was a bad one) so its playable
cheers -
So it's a dual-core Intel processor @ 1.66 ghz. Alright, well you could deal with that. But unfortunately the rest of your specs just won't be able to game, doubtfully even at lowest settings and res.
-
so definitely your RAM and Graphics Card are your bottlenecks. the only way you can get a decent performance increase for your case is to put more ram in.
-
Did you buy this notebook with the intentions of gaming?
-
I agree with you somewhat. The GPU is an issue, yet the rest of the system is also an issue. You hit it right on: this computer is for basic tasks: word processing, internet. You can have the best CPU in the world, it still can't make up for the lack of a dedicated card. But I hear minesweeper is very fun.
-
i didnt buy this with the intention if gaming. I am a 14 yeaqr old kid and the laptop was bought 4 schol work but as i got rid of my playstation i decided i wanted a pc game or 2, Halo works fine but im bored of that now and would like something better. What games would u reccomend for my notebook?
-
I agree with myself too
-
The Reader Rabbit series, or hooked on phonics. Good stuff to support your education.
-
Also try looking up the Asus XG station.
-
Please don't get his hopes up on this thing that has been delayed, and maybe canceled. Not to mention the cost-prohibitiveness, you might as well buy a console.
-
One good game that may run on your machine is roller coaster tycoon 2. Yes, 2. rc3 would not run on your lappy.
-
You guys are all being mean to the poor kid.
Here are some GREAT games that will work on a GMA 950. You could probably even get by with 512mb with these games too.
Starcraft, Warcraft 3, System Shock 2, Counter-Strike 1.6, Diablo 2, Planetside, World of Warcraft (eh, with more ram, maybe), Half-Life 1, Command and Conquer: Generals.
Those are just off the top of my head, but I think they are all awesome games worth playing, and they will certainly function on your computer.
I do not know if AoE III will function so well on your computer. Rome: Total War will certainly play from the war map, but once you get into a battle (which you don't technically have to do, you can have the computer decide the outcome), your graphics will grind to a halt. -
im sure that battlefield 9142 will run, but i doubt it´ll run on high.... maybe some things turn on high might but most things on Mid
luck!! -
GMA 950 can also run Max Payne 1 and 2. Both are awesome games.
-
i mean BF 1942
-
Hehe. Talk about futuristic warfare. It'd make 2150 or whatnot look like the stone age.
-
lol leave the kid alone...hes only three years younger than me and im sure if he was the same as me wanted to shoot guns in games and not play with the alphabet...its better tahn my desktop thouhg...minus the graphics...which pretty much is the issue so i retract that statement
-
Battlefield 1942 will be just fine. You can probably run it at high settings too. I have it, and I only have an Intel Centrino 1.5GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and an Intel GMA 82852/82855 graphics card with 64MB. I can run it on high, so your good to go.

Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
Integrated graphics are stuck to the motherboard I believe.
If it's an integrated chip, you can NEVER change it.
However, you can play some games on that graphics card. -
hahaha , yea.... i just had a number mispelled, thats all

There is a thread dedicated to gaming on the 950:
