Hello everyone
I have a 8600m gs 256mb ddr3 and it seems to be somewhat hardware locked when it comes to OC, gpu-id wont let me read the vga bios so i cant save it and change it :/
However! as for now 169.04 is the ONLY driver I can overclock in... and its fast! though, the driver is very old and doesnt have all the game boosts that the new drivers has (ex. 175 series) which i need.
Here is the question, anyone figured what makes the 169.04 overclock ? which is different from the rest? registry key ?! something compiled into the dlls ? anything?!
I would REALLY like to be able to OC my damn gfxcard :/ it makes a world of difference in games.

All drivers for me have been ocable.
-
What OC software are you using? If your using rivatuner you might want to try ATI tools or other OC softwares out there.
-
the oc software doesnt make a difference.. and all drivers are ocable for some cards.. but gpus that somehow have been limited or partly locked, only very few drivers will OC.. questing is, what in those drivers makes them work.
-
Could be a lot of things , like the way it`s coded to increase speeds, the way it acts when a specific tast is given, the optimisation for performance, heat dissipation , etc...
-
its not the just the driver. In your case, the video BIOS is blocking you from using above 169.04

Yes i meant overclocking with drivers over 169.04. Ive tried the 173.xx and 174.xx drivers and they cant OC. The sliders just reset back to stock clocks
The only way to make them OC'able is to modify the vBIOS -
Exactly.. thats also my conclusion, however! Im not allowed to read it
which pisses me a bit off.. so anyone know someone /somewhere to get a 8600 gs ddr3 vbios?

*bump* anyone with an LG know how to get a bios that can be modified? the one form the support site is an auto update .exe :/ cant use that.

More info on how to get the Video Bios alternative ways is mentioned in this thread:

same here, 169.04 is the last driver series that let me overclock. Anything above just resets my 3d high power clocks back.
The wierd thing is that I can still overclock my 2d and 3d low power clocks, why is that?
My 2d and 3d low power clocks do not reset and I'm able to overclock them with no problem. This is using RivaTuner and ATI Tool. The problem is that i dont game on 3d low power or 2d so that's beyond the point.
what makes 169.04 overclock?
