The only game I have that I can apply this to is GTA IV, and it doesn't seem to run well at 1920x1080 for me no matter how low the settings are, so I just use 1280x720. It's only slightly blurry.

Max resolution at lower settings > lower resolution at max settings windowed > lower resolution at max setting full screen.

For whatever reasons, games that are X360 ports look good on lower resolutions. I.e, 1280x720 on a 1920x1080 still looks good. That's another thing for original pc games though.

    But each his own preference.

    Indeed a stupid question. XD
User preferences, this is the correct answer.

For me, if the function "DO NOT SCALE" my screen is still available on Nvidia Control Panel or Catalyst Control Center, I will use lower resolution and higher graphics details. If not, I have no choice but to use max resolution and low graphics details.
I find that the newer/latest version of either NCP and CCC do not have "DO NOT SCALE" anymore. T.T

Fantomasz, you have posted this topic twice now, and I think you got a sufficient amount of answers in the last one.

For, it's generally maximum resolution with lower settings. The one game I have at the moment that is the exception is GTA IV, as my 8600 GTS and Q6600 can not drive it well at 1920 x 1200, so I play at 1280 x 800 instead, which is actually alright. I have noticed that GTA IV seems to be one of the few games that doesn't look too bad on a non native resolution. Crysis, on the other hand, must be played at 1920 x 1200, regardless of settings. I can't stand how blurry and crap it looks at 1280 x 800.

First you start at 720P or 16:10 equivalent.

Then you enable the best settings without taking a performance hit. (Don't put everything on high, ultra etc..) Use tweakguides or gamespot performance guides to enable the most important settings and you'll have a mix of high/ultra/medium maybe even low.

Then start raising the resolution too 900P, 1080P if you can keep the frames.

I always do the best resolution possible, and change the settings accordingly.

I would gladly trade either resolution or settings for frame rate.

I like to get the settings where I want them (not necessarily max) first at low low res, then increase resolution until I hit a framerate that pleases me for the game.

For MW2 online, that means ~60 fps.

For other games, 45 might be the magic number, or 30.
