So it's just frozen? If so, just hold the power button down until it shuts off.

It won't reboot on its own because you can set it not to... to get diagnostic information

I scream madly while flailing my arms about.

By then the computer has usually restarted itself (Vista blue screens don't stick around like they did in XP or 98).
Otherwise I usually just hold the power button down till it turns off.

    RUN!!!!!!!!!!

Or Press the power button for 4 seconds :) If you are having BSOD frequently, check for overheating or check for bad ram with memtest

BSODs can basically results from anything. Driver incompatibilities, something disabled prematurely, bad ram, unsufficient system power etc.
Usually a restart/hard reboot fixes it.

My BSODs in Vista have been mostly related to faulty WU packages.

SP1 should suposedly clear some of the issue, but in a friend`s case, his desktop went DIA after installing SP1, BSODs and restarts.
Reverted to standard Vista and it was ok.
AMD CPU 3000+ and ATI 2900 Pro...
Hmm, I guess AMD cpus have have issues with SP1, sounds like a conspiracy lol :D

I just laugh, and hold down the power button for a few secs.

I'm still trying to find a T-Shirt in BSOD blue with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL in the correct font on the front in white !

Once, after rebooting, I clicked to send some very important data to microsoft to help them to analyse my problem, and I then sat by the phone waiting for them to ring. Would you believe that after almost an HOUR they hadn't rung me with a detailed explaination, so I just went to the pub. They obviously mustn't have my new number. :D

Laugh, that is, until you reboot, and get it again...and again...and again...

You can also check from Even Viewer what caused the BSoD, mostly it's caused by bad drivers.

Well, that "mostly" can vary. But the Event Viewer sugestion is good, it`s how I found out Creative crashed my system after installing a bad set of drivers

I shut down VMWare/Parallels and continue using OS X.

But yeah, there is nothing amazing that you can do. Usually caused by dodgy drivers, unless you have damaged hardware.
