Iam looking at various dell laptops some with x300s and the others with 9700s what would be a better card for gaming? they both have the same video memory, also which one consumes less power. any detailed input and information about both cards would greatly be appreciated.

That's a hard question actually... The 9700 will perform better on the battlefield, but the X300 wins when it comes to consumption and support of newer features.

    9700: 4 pipelines, 2 vertex pipelines, 128-bit. Scores around 3000 3dmark03 points.
    X300: 4 pipelines, 2 vertex pipelines, 64-bit. Scores around 2000 3dmark03 points.

So the question is, what do you want: pure gaming performance or newer features and less power consumption?

    Charlie :)

I'd go for the 9700. The x300 does have a better feature set although it is hardly in a position to put Shader Model 3 gaming to use. The 128bit memory bus will give it an advantage when gaming.

X300 would be a lot better on power consumption and heat output though.

    Edit: Wait, i just remember the x300 doesn't have Shader Model 3 ! D'oh!

The MR9700 should be faster than the X300; it was more comparable to the X600. A laptop featuring the MR9700 is not a good buy anymore because it will have older components. Even an X300 is not going to be in a new notebook; go with an X1300 or Go7300 and get a dual-core machine.
