whats the difference between the 8600GS and 8600M GT? one barebone i looked at had all the same specs as another one, but they were priced differently because one barebone laptop had the 8600GS and the other the 8600M GT. is the GT better?

The GT is way better. It's like 33% better or sumthing.

They're based off the same cores, however the GS has half the stream processors and texture units. To make up for this, the GS is clocked higher. In general, the GT will be about 35% faster in older games or on low settings in newer games. However on higher settings in newer shader intensive games, the GT can be over 50% more powerful.

As my fellow two forumites have already mentioned, the GS variant only has 16 stream processors while the GT variant has 32 stream processors. The GT, therefore, has much more to work with in terms of processing power, resulting in significant performance gains with the GT.
what's the difference between these 2 cards?
